1907 style sling question

When mounting a 1907 style sling on a service rifle, are the frogs supposed to be facing up (e.g. facing the receiver of the rifle), or down (facing the ground)?

I've found conflicting information on the web:

I have mine facing up. Seems to work fine.

Fulton Armorys way is the correct "military" way while the Ray-vin is correct for "competition" shooting.

It’s still a free country; you can do what you want. What works best for me, are frogs down. I also put both keepers in front of the frog. This is technically wrong, but it works best for me. There is a lot of different ways to sling up. You have to try them all, and see what works best for you and your position.

here is how the sling was put on my Garand.

A friend who used to be on a Navy shooting team put the sling on the rifle. I will defer to how he likes it.

frogs up for me, though most everyone i know that use 1907 slings (all HP shooters) does frogs down.

i could never make frogs down work. that is annoying, because i also have 1907 slings on a pair of rem700s in addition to my AR service rifle. on my service rifle, it doesn't bother me, but on the 700s, the frogs up scratches the finish on the stock. oh well.
