i have built 1 1/2 1911s using Fusion Firearms kits and parts. the MOST fun you can have with your clothes on--no kidding! let's all build one and then have a postal match to compare notes. i got some Esmeralda Grips to give myself a nice present and all the other stuff is top shelf. i tried my hand at cold-blueing and i am stoked. the guns look professional. check out Fusion if you are thinking along 1911 lines, it's a gas.--robby p.s. i have pictures but for the life of me i can't get them to

Below the text-box for your post look for the "Manage Attachments" button.

Click it.

If your browser blocks the pop-up, then allow it and try again....

Click the "Browse" button under "Upload File from your Computer" and select your picture.

Clicke the "Upload" button.

Done!!

Ive actually considered this but they dont make a 3" barrel in 9mm or .45acp
That would be a great long term project to buy piece by piece and learn while i go also.I really want to attempt using GunKote.

I'm 1911-less, so I don't know much about them. How do these stack up quality/reliability wise? I'd love one in 10mm, but a Dan Wesson is a little out of the price range at the moment. If I get a 10mm, it'll likely be my woods gun, so reliability would be a must.

Also, what else would you need to make it "complete"? From the looks of it, you'd need a grip, grip safety, thumb safety, sights, and mags. Am I missing anything? I know it's tough to estimate, but if I'd do a 10mm Scout ($699), what would the end price be if I'd go with good, but not over the top, parts? Is the slide that comes in the kit stainless steel or do you have to blue it?

EDIT: Just realized the trigger/hammer/and i'm assuming firing pin is missing as well....

you are right, you have to add all the small parts, but you get to add the ones you like. my scout kit with small parts, grips, etc. got to me for $870. it wasn't complete but it was 95%. i cold blued it using Birchwood-Casey stuff and preheating the parts for 15 min. in a 450 oven that started cold. i then applied the cold blue with a sponge after transferring the parts to a cold plate. you have to keep at it with the sponge, it's not instantaneous. it came out so well i couldn't believe it. write to [email protected]

I like that spurless hammer on the frame. What length slide you using again?

i think i'm going to use a stainless 5" slide for that upside down two-tone effect. i will most certainly consider suggestions. Fusion has a slide with what they call the "target rib." think of a groove running down the slide on either side of the rear sight. it's better seen on their website. tell bob serva that i told you to visit.--robby

Looks great! Make sure to post pics when you get the slide put on. As for the uploading issues... I'm wondering if you aren't waiting long enough at the white screen. What internet connection do you use (dialup, cable, etc) and how big are the pictures (also how many pictures)? They may be uploading, even though it looks like nothing is happening. How long have you let it go for?

I've always been a little nervous doing anything major to my firearms. I'd hate to make something stop working...

This thread is seriously tempting me though. I'd really like to learn more and I think I'd enjoy putting one together. Are there better options for a beginner though? Is this a little too advanced for someone like me?
