Illinois HB182

HB182 and HB3714 both passed by wide margins in the house and senate and are in front of the governor for his signature.

HB182 removes the threat of a felony charge for you and your dad for doing some recreational shooting with your dad and grandpa at your grandpa's farm.

HB3714 removes the FOID revocation for minor non-violent convictions where people are sentenced to probation.

Time to let the governor know how you would like him to deal with these bills.
 
Well I shot some clays at a friends house on saturday and I haven't been arrested yet. If you haven't noticed, the cops don't usually drive around on the back country roads.

Relying on the good will of the authorities not to enforce a law is not necessarily a good choice. Especially when it is a felony.

This change to the law was in response to someone actually being charged solely for having a loaded firearm in his sister's house, with her permission.

Don't think it can't happen. Once one place gets a conviction for something like this, it spreads like wildfire. It would just have been a matter of time before someone was charged with a felony for doing exactly what you did.
 
Speaking of Kane County, let's get rid of the Aurora AWB too!

If you live in aurora, you have a better shot at changing things then people who live outside the area.

Illinoiscarry is reporting the Kane County board did pass the pro-2A resolution this morning.
 
IL residents - a caution about not being on your own land

Attached is a copy of a criminal charge in St. Clair County, Illinois. Even though the information is obtainable from public records, I removed the names of all persons involved - names aren't relevant to the issue.

As you can see, this person's crime was essentially having loaded gun while he was not on his own land.

A guy named Price in Cook County was convicted of felony UUW for having a loaded gun at his sister's house, with her permission.

HB182 is waiting for the governor's signature to fix this abomination of a law.
 
Gee, I am sure glad I live in a state where the elected officials, at least 60%, have common sense when it comes to gun control. Hey, I would ask a favor, would you please take the Obamanation back. The rest of America has our fill of his stupidity.

It kind of depends on where he was. If he was at someone's home where he was invited, HB182 would make his conduct no longer illegal.

If he was standing in the middle of the street, it would still be illegal.
 
I checked this bill out and saw it went to the Govenors desk on June 26th.I know if Quinn does not sign this it automatically becomes law after 60 days.Does anybody have any idea what Quinn will do?If he does not sign it what day will it become a law?
 
[knockonwood] It's Aug. 22. This bill becomes law Aug. 26 (Wed.), barring the governor's veto. [/knock]

I'm pretty disappointed in Quinn for not signing this, but I guess I should have known better, after all he is still an Illinois Democrat. At least he hasn't vetoed it. yet.
 
GOOD LORD! I had no idea there was such a "law." That is truly frightening. And to make matters worse, I've apparently been regularly entertaining numerous felons around my clay thrower...:rolleyes: Absolutely ridiculous. I take it the bill wasn't vetoed and it's therefore legal to invite my "felonious" shotgun toting cohorts over? Man, the wonders of this state never cease...:banghead::barf:

Isn't that the sickening truth. I thought NOBODY could be worse than Blago, but I could see Quinn getting seriously out of control. This guy makes me nervous.
 
Awesome, thanks. I usually try to stay on top of the IL news, but this one must have just slipped clean by me.
 
Aw hell, why don't you just move out of that state man. It's nuts.
 
I don't know. This state would be fine if we could just chop the NE corner off. Seriously, the ridiculousness with guns and taxes comes 100% from the Chicago/suburban area politicians. Unfortunately, they have all the money and political power, and pretty much run the show.

On the upside, we are one of the few states left with NO statewide vehicle inspections. Chi-land has 'em, but that's their problem (enforcement is county by county). Ironically, I've seen more dangerous clapped-out junk on the road up there than anywhere else.
