I recently went on a revolver spree and bought two new rugers. One of them came in today, and boy, what a mess. Its a ruger Single Six in 22lr/22mag. The gun wouldnt cycle. It would bind up, and when you could jiggle the cylinderenough to get it to rotate, the hammer would only drop to half cock. As if this wasnt bad enough, on the side opposite the loading gate there was nothing but rust. No blueing left, all rust. I watched the guy open the box, and take it out of the plastic. What a major disapointment. Now I have a 7.5" barrel .45 colt Blackhawk coming on tuesday, and to be quite honest, I am worried about it.

What do you guys think, should I push the dealer to send it back to his distributor, or should I let him send it to ruger for me? What would be best for me, in the long run? He seems to think the distributor will tell him to send it to ruger. The gun was never transferred to me.

If it had never been transeferred to me I would get the paper work done and be on the phone to Ruger, both within about 10 minutes. Thay will make it right in my opinion. Apparently they have a problem, either a bluing process is messed up or employee sabotage; yours is not the first or only such occurance.

I think that I we will be going the route of sending it to ruger for repair/replacement. He thinks that with all of the mechanical issues they will simply replace it. The bad part is that I went with ruger over other manufacturers because of quality issues. I have had good luck with some questionable brands over the years, so I guess it was just my time.

You did the correct thing and was able to inspect the gun before you filled out any paper work. In that case, it would be up to the dealer to do whatever he wanted to do with HIS gun. You wouldn't buy a new car with a bad fender and be expected to take it to Detroit while the dealer took your check to the bank, would you? Have him get another one in and inspect THAT one before you file any paper. It's only fair and it's good service on his part.

Buy a different one from the same dealer and if he gives you trouble about it, take your business elsewhere.

I dont have a problem with the dealer, his prices are more than fair and he is a nice guy. The question is do i want him to send it back to his dealer and get me a new one, or do I want him to send it to ruger for replacement. I dont have to do anything. I cant just exchange it for another one off the shelf, this was ordered. I may just have him send it to ruger, as his distributor that he would be sending it back to would probably send one from the same run of guns and end up screwed up too. It doesnt really matter, I dont guess, either way its getting fixed. I just wanted to relate my experience to everyone, as there have been lots of ruger stories lately.
