All this love for Victory Model S&Ws . . . During the Vietnam War, for each flight, I would fish out of the locker in the ready room one of many bandolier holsters containing Victory Model with mouldy .38sp tracers in loops on the chest belts. I'd load five of them into the revolver and position the empty chamber under the hammer. When I returned, I'd put the rounds back in their loops, and drop the rig back in the locker. I don't think anyone looked after those handguns, or the ammo, during the entire six-month cruise! The Victory Model revolver was just a piece of equipment, on the same level as my plotting board. Sorta reminds me of going into an antique store and saying to my wife, "Hey, my folks had one of those!"
I found the Victory Model to be very accurate when shooting from the flight deck, single action, at garbage being dumped off the fantail.
Cordially, Jack
