not a woobie wars thread, inspired by today's "old guys like revolvers" post

Two best things that can happen to a guy who likes shooting
#1 - the ONE right woman for you (found mine 36 years ago, still got her, too)
#2 - the ONE most perfect-for-you handgun (found mine couple decades ago, still got that one, too)

The one right woman, you can only have ONE of, but if lucky enough to find the one right gun, you can own several of same
but if like most, you may have to try a bunch to discover that the 1st one was THE right one (guns, not women, lads, ok to get confused about guns, not ok to get confused about ladies, now matter how pretty the guns/ladies may be)

Me, mine was a model 66 S&W, had to try a bunch of others to find out that nothing else even comes close (for me). Own more than one now, needless to say

what's your story ?

When I was 15 years old (I am 32 now), I saw a picture of a Colt DS with the shrouded barrel and walnut grips. It was love at the first sight... I have dreamed this revolver:eek: And "Colts" are very rare here... Finaly, three years ago, I did find a fine Colt DS Austrian import. I beliave that I am the owner of one of the few Detective Specials in Bulgaria. A dream came true. It is a very special gun for me - we both saw the world in the same year - 1977. And yes, "he" is the one!

P.S. And about an year and a half ago I met the most beautiful girl in the world...:)

Four or five years ago, I bought a S&W K-22 / Model 17-0 in 22 LR. It was this gun that told me that S&W K (and L Frames) are my absolute favorites. Today I own 6 K/L frames, and will probably be adding many more as the years go by.

The Ruger Security/Speed/Police Service Six series are right up their though in a VERY close 2nd.

I found mine 35 years ago. Only woman that would put up with me.

I would have to say my model 66-4 4 inch is my best all around revolver. A real close second would be my Ruger Police Service Six 4 inch. My Ruger is a ex carry police revolver and the action is well broke in. I have Eight double action revolvers but these two always stand out.

Thanks,
roaddog

Found my woman 17 years ago, married 15 years ago. I'm glad I waited. Seen the results of to many bad choices and mismatches.

Found my gun this year, after thirty years of shooting. I tried darn near everything that throws lead and finally settled on the S&W 45colt Mountain Gun. I wish I had tried one sooner, but I guess I appreciate it all the more because of the countless other guns I have tried. I have definitely developed a strong affection for any 4" N-frame Smith, but the big, slow 45colt is my favorite, followed by the model 22-4 Thunder Ranch 45acp revolver. If the 22-4 didn't require moon-clips it would be a tie between it and the Mountain Gun.

Some of the other guns I've owned seem foolish to me, now. Many seem trendy, and I have kept very few. If ammo prices were more reasonable, I would be happy parting with everything except the 25-13 Mountain Gun and shoot only 45colt. I have little or no use for auto-loaders anymore. Not trying to start anything. They just don't suit me. I went thru my high-end 1911 phase and my Hi-Power phase. I still like the feel of both the 1911 and the Hi-Power, but I don't own either anymore.

I have always found it interesting to see which handgun a person prefers. Kinda like what breed of dog someone prefers, or what brand of beer.

Right woman? My wife of 25 years at age 27. :)

Right handgun? 1911 at age 17. :D

I can see why so many people like k frames!
it's pretty close between a model 66 4" .357 and a model 18 .22 lr for me.
I give the edge to the model 18 for mysterious reasons. I get chills just thinking about that piece of art....

I'll go one step further (off topic) and say my just right rifle is my swede m96. dont get me wrong, I love my ar-15, ruger 30-06, and my k31, along with other .22 counterparts, but the m96 just has that "aura" with me. sadly though, we don't go out much....

#1. Well, just a little over 28 years ago (I 18 years she 17) I met the finest young lady I have ever met, even to this day, although I am still a little surprised at her lack of good judgement shortly thereafter - she said 'yes'. Only a saint of a women could have put up with me this long, there are times when I can hardly stand myself. :scrutiny:

#2. I'm still looking for my powder burning woobie but am quite enjoying the search. I am in the pre-purchase stage right now and I'm only sure of the caliber at this point, .357. I was thinking a Smith 327 TRR8 was it but now I'm mulling over a Convertible Blackhawk. Would ya'll go with the 6 1/2" or the 4 5/8" barrel on the Ruger?

I've always like wheelguns but I got with the crowd a while back and picked up high cap auto while the get'n was good. I'll keep it for now (Beretta PX4 Shorty) but it just don't scratch my itch.

My better half? Next January 14th we'll have 30 years as husband and wife after a six-week courtship. We tell each other that we married to do society a favor because nobody else would be crazy enough to have either of us. That's about as "made for each other" as it gets in my book. God blessed us with a son who inherited enough of each of us to pay us back for anything we ever did to our parents. They say interest can wane after a few years of marriage; well, our 30 years have been nothing if not interesting.
My best handgun? My Dan Wesson .357 Maximum SuperMag; although my current one is #2 after I had to sell my first one to pay some debts. Even on my best day, I have never been as accurate as it is capable of; has an effective hunting range farther than I am willing to take a shot and power enough for anything I'd care to hunt without beating me to death with recoil during 100-round shooting sessions.

Seedtick.

I had similar questions about which 357 blackhawk to go with. I like the accuracy of the longer barrel, but decided on a 50th anniversary with the 4-5/8 barrel. I put a pair of real stag grips on it and it sure looks sweet. It also clears leather much nicer than the longer barrel, and seems to point more naturally for me. You can't go wrong with either barrel length, but the shorter barrel seems to fit the overall package better in my opinion.

Good Luck

I wish my luck with finding the right woman was as good as finding the right revolver. I'm still looking for the right one after having "caught and released" two of them.

As for the right revolver that was easy. The very first model 10 I tried shot so well and grouped so tight that I was sure I was doing something wrong or that it had an autoaimer in it somewhere. This trait for uncanny accuracy and grouping is still there every time I shoot the Model 19 with Hogue grips that I bought for myself shortly after.

My "just right" handgun was my S&W 620, obtained near three years ago. Balance is perfect, trigger's great, points like nobody's business, it always surprises me with its accuracy......it treats me well, so I return the favor. Plus, it's just unique enough to suit my tastes :p

Right woman? Still looking.

Like your first love, you also never forget your first handgun. For me as a pilot in USMC I was issued a 1911 A-1 and it still holds my heart.

However, I was required to carry a 4" revolver in the early part of my police career and mine was a S&W Model 66. My mishandling of it almost got me killed in my first shooting encounter (Stateside). I Learned to handle it properly and it concluded 2 more shootings in my favor. So when I cheat on the 1911, I like ending up with the 66.

I guess the institution of marriage is okay as institutions go as I have some experience with it, but being a little gun shy I'm taking my current engagement SLOW. I hope to report back to you in fifteen or so years that this one was the best in my life too.

Met my wife in 89 and met my Ruger Security 6 stainless 2 3/4 in 90. (got $75 in it) Still got both. Not getting rid of either one either.

My wifes is her Colt Detective Special. Got it from a retired NYPD detective in 90. (he liked me, only wanted $20 for it cause the wife was getting it).

well i've only been married to my wife for a little over two years, though i've known her for many more. we both had some growing pains to get through and whatnot. luckily for the rest of the world we've taken each other off the market. she's my pride and joy.

in regards to wheelguns, i grew up shooting my dad's Ruger Single-Six and Blackhawk .357 and knew immediately: "when i'm old enough to have my own guns, i'll have these."
the first handgun i ever bought for myself was a New Model Blackhawk in .357 with the 7.5" barrel. had it for years now and it is the only gun i've bought for myself (vs. inherited. several of those.) that i would never part with. if i was predisposed to open carry it would never leave my side as my SD gun. that gun in my hand is just a magical thing.

have yet to come across a single-six that coincides with the money in my wallet, but some day...

Been married for over 32 yrs, no else would put up with me.

Now guns, the one perfect one, I don't know, but a few come close.

The perfect .22 revolver for me, is the Smith and Wesson 17-2, K22 Masterpiece, with a Ruger single six bringing up a close second.

Perfect .357 for me is a 6 inch L-frame for shooting, Model 19 if a little lighter gun is wanted.

Favorite Big bores, are the Smith and Wesson 25-2, 45ACP, and the Model 29-2 44mag, but also really like a 4-5/8" Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag.

Honorable mention, Smith and Wesson 44 mag mountain gun, with lighter loads, Model 60 38 special, Ruger Bearcat, oh and I almost forgot, I really love the 5 1/2 inch barreled Peacemaker Clones of good quality.

And my Favorite big bore auto is a 5 inch 1911

I saw my wife walking across our college campus in '94 and said to my roomate, "I want to get to know her." One thing led to another, including me sweettalking her away from her sorta-fiancee (no ring), and we've been married since July, 1996 - thirteen and a half years of fun and frustration, like and love. Love her more now than ever before.

Favorite wheelie is my Smith 15, used from a security company. She's got a little wear on her, but she shoots smooth and straight. Had it about 6 months.

Too bad the two don't get along so well. For my wife, it's pure hatred of any gun. :uhoh:

Interesting question. One woman for me; married since 1982. Lots of handguns, though no single favorite. If it had to be only one, it'd be a four-inch stainless GP100. But fortunately, "polygunmy" is completely legal!
