What would it take for you to get off the computer and go SHOOT ?

What would it take for you to finally sight in that EBR ? Or check the zero at 300 yds? 400 yds?

What would it take for you to finally develop better skills with all your firearms?

What would it take for you to finally ditch the "gun show special" crap holster/magazine/mag pouch/scope and get a good one?

What would it take for you to finally load up all those components you feel so smug about having? After all, they're no good until you load them. (plus, they store better assembled)

What will it take for you to finally get serious?

I consider myself a serious shooter. I compete in matches, from local to National level and generally do pretty well. But l got to thinking.........

Like many here, I own more than one firearm. But as I looked in the safe today, I realized I'd not shot this one or that one lately. Another one, I should verify the scope at 300 yds. Another, I need to make sure the new magazine works, etc.

I'm going to MAKE time to do the things that need to be done. I might even take notes so I can refer to them in the future.

How about you? What should be on your "to-do" list?

I only own one rifle. I need to buy ammo for it. At the same time I need a Mossberg Home Defense shotgun. Therefore I don't have the problem you mentioned :neener:

Retired and on a fixed income, I can't increase the quantity of rounds fired without giving up something else. I participate in local and regional matches (IDPA, IPSC and HP), but don't like to travel far these days. I usually get to the range three to five days a week and fire 2500 or so rounds per month.

Occasionally, I look in the safe and see that XP-100, Contender, bolt rifle or revolver that hasn't been fired in a while. I'll dust it off and give 'er a workout. Maybe even shoot a silhouette match or use a wheel gun in a steel match.

So, the rest of the time, if I'm not engaged in chores around the house or doing whatever my wife dreams up, I can spend the time watching the news to see what those 536 morons in Washington are doing to us, or I can visit gun forums.

I think I will shoot a few cast bullet loads through my 7TCU tomorrow. Thanks.

What would it take? Better availability of a place to shoot - one of the few things I miss about living out West. We had a city park for shooting rifles, pistols and machine guns, another for clay sports, plus all the BLM land you could get lost in to shoot wherever you wanted

Personally, for me and friends it takes about a 30 or 200 yard walk.:)

There's about four problems keeping people from shooting more, little time, little money to spare, few or no places to shoot and as I've found out, just being too darn lazy.

I don't know how many people that have expressed an interest in shooting or learning to shoot, that I've invited out my place, that are too darn lazy to drive 20 minutes, and in many cases I even supply the guns and ammo.:(

I may not have the time or money to shoot every day but I do have the time to check the latest gun blog postings.

I just came in from shooting. 28 degrees and falling but I quit cause it's getting dark out.

Now I gotta wait for tomorrow !

I got no excuses really, got a place to shoot, have PLENTY of ammo and plenty of guns. I guess it just comes down to I'm just a lazy SOB.

The temp to get above 0. 4 below right now and the range has 2 feet of snow on it.

LOL

This week? Well, I just decided today no practice at the range or action shooting practice....I just got a new dog....3 yr old blue heeler.

I left him alone in the utility room for an hr and a half when I ran errands 2 days ago and he removed an entire side of the door frame and chewed it up.

So I am working on leaving him alone, in the main house, for short periods and may decide to use a crate. But at this point, he will think of the crate only as punishment and not a safe place, so I prefer not to have to.

But this will be the first week I've missed shooting since Aug....

And btw, he came with the name Rufus but it is gradually being changed to Ruger :)

9MMare: Your dog is probably suffering from separation anxiety. The more time you spend with him the sooner he'll get over it. He has to accept his new pack and be sure he's accepted. Make sure he knows you are the dominant one which will help him know his place in the pack. Once he's accepted his new pack he'll settle down. Think if you were pulled from your family and put into a different one.
Also the crate may help him relax. It's like the security of a den in the ground. Keep him in a small area when you're gone like the bathroom. I learned this stuff from breeders. There's a show called Dog Whisperer which is educational on understanding how dogs think. The problem is usually the owners, not the dogs.

Hey now, my screenname is happygeek for a reason. I've got a 2 year old Gateway laptop waiting for me to put openSuSe 11.0 back on it. It's got openSuSe 11.1 on it currently, they only changed 2 things that I've noticed, and I didn't like either. Thing is, it takes a bit of time to get an OS up and running with all the programs I want, espicially since I have to build a couple of them from source. Also just finished putting together a desktop for my wife's uncle and before that we were putting together a gaming desktop for me :D

Me and the wife own 4 rifles currently, all are rocking the iron sights because I've been buying guns and ammo, not accessories, so no scope to sight in. I'll get some sort of cheap red dot sight for my tacticool 22LR as soon as I have some money saved up. I can't afford to shoot the 7.62x51mm or even the 5.56x45mm all that much, but I've been shooting the heck out of our 22LR pretty much weekly. I've also put a good number of rounds through my 9x19mm since I got it. My 45 ACP, not quite as much. Money, it limits some of us.

Oh, one of our four rifles is a M1 Garand, ammo is over $1 a round for it, so ... it's pretty much been a look pretty museum piece since I bought it.

The only long range firearm I own at the moment is a 30-30.
