"A little dated????":what: It's FIFTY YEARS OLD!:neener:

You're right about it making a good point. Back then people feared a nuclear war and I was a kid when that show was being made. People really did fear the Soviets might start something. A lot of people invested in bunkers. Unfortunatly many were so close to where the missiles would hit that it wouldn't really have helped much.
If you want to read a good book from that era get Alas, Babylon, which is a good read about a nuclear strike & aftermath from the point of view of a Florida town that becomes isolated after the SHTF.

+1 for Alas Babylon... a really good read

My father was a Baptists minister. During the early 60s the church built a new parsonage. (home for the preacher and family)

The house had a full basement that included a fallout shelter. Twelve inch blocks filled with sand and sand filled in the rafters above. It had a heavy steel door. It was really built it to the specs.

We read Alas! Babylon in school, the only one from school I bought for myself, great book.
No bunkers for us, too poor, just listen for the Air Raid sirens being tested every Saturday at 11AM...

Alas, Babylon was a good book. Re-reading it now that I'm a gun person, his 'arsenal' was really odd...he didn't seem to have a lot of ammo around, either, only a hundred rounds or so, IIRC.

Hey Folks,
I didn't watch very much of that episode until I started thinking about that mob going to get a battering ram.:what:

If you build your bunker with a doorway where someone can't get a long run at it with a battering ram, or so they will have to turn a corner to get to the entrance, then the neighbors can't batter your door down.

Another thing is if your neighbors don't know you have a bunker:evil: they can't barge in either.:neener:

Then you can hide all the guns in it you want.

Human nature will never get "dated". I expect that people afraid of a threat in 2060 will behave exactly the same way they behaved in 1960. What this episode is about is how thin the vernier of civilization is and how quickly we can degrade back to our base instincts.

I wouldn't worry about the cinematic details or bunker design. Maybe in 2060 your "neighbor" will use his laser to cut through your bunker door. Venier is venier, no matter what its age is.
