I just picked up 1060 rounds of .308 for $399.00. Came in a wood box made for the rounds. Box is just stamped .308 7.65 x 51 and a couple other numbers that I had no idea what those were for. The rounds are backed in 20round boxes. The boxes are thin green cardboard, also just marked .308 7.65 x51.

Any thoughts.

I'll go look.) didn't want the wife to see it, so I stashed it quick. @37 cents a round, I thought it was a good deal, just don't who made it. there's no foreign markings. brass looks older, but great condition.

This box?

Sellier & Bellott 147gr - they're Berdan primed and corrosive - keep the brass for scrap value and clean well when you're done shooting

Thin green cardboard boxes, 1060 per wooden crate? My guess is S&B, Czech ammo. If no S&B headstamp, may be French. Tell us the markings, and fire a round, to see what the primer looks like. Could be Berdan.

Edit: what the speed-demons above me typed. :D

Thanks. Yep you nailed it. Hope I didn't get screwed. I do clean like a freak, so not worried about that. I'll keep it environment controlled. Perhaps ok to plunk with. better be, I'm stuck with it.

Thanks. I just did some more reading, and like you all said, just clean it good, and don't worry about trying to reload it. Can't wait to hit the range. Honeslty, wasn't sure until a bit ago what corrosive meant. Happy to learn something else new today. If it wasn't 6 degrees and midnight out right now, I'd love to take a couple shots. Oh well, the weekend isn't far away. Cheers.

To be honest, these are stock rounds I would use just to increase my familiarity with my weapon. I can't reload it, so I wouldn't have to worry about policing my brass. I'd get out there and run some drills with it...but that's just me. :D

Glad you could learn something today OhioChief; this is THR at its best.

For the corrosive ammo do you need to clean with soap and water or ammonia based? Just something I think I remember reading. I don't think the typical bore cleaners (hoppes 9 etc) do well cleaning corrosive and you can damage your barrels if not cleaned well. I am sure someone here can tell you the proper way to clean corrosive ammo.

well, been reading a lot about this tonight. most say start with water. One said start with Windex. It gets under the oil, so you need to clean the salt away with water and the ammonia in the windex. But if somebody's got some experience with this, please speak up. Thanks

its funny. I read a where he had to hide this from his from wife. I do that too sometimes (it saves grief). But remember when we were younger and said "Boy, can"t wait till i'm out of moms house, then I can do what i want when i want" so we wouldn't have to worriy about get caught doing stuff. Then we got married. and we're now back to hiding stuff again.:D

I shoot corrosive fromt ime to time in my Mosin Nagants-- that being said, I a spray bottle with windex at the range (out of habit, because I think the water is the agent, and ammonia just is there)-- and lots of hot water followed by drying and good lube once dry-- never have had an issue of pitting. You also can reload Berdan primed rounds-- bit of a pain, but it can be done-- I will find a link for the homeade tool to remove the old primer if I still can locate it..
