Hello,

I hear tale of inexpensive 92fs for sale. It would be great to find one in decent shape for between 3-400 dollars. I had a 92fs inox I foolishly sold and always shot it very well.

I am in a quest for the lightest recoiling 9mm in my hands. Going to try a G17 first, but if I could get ahold of a 92fs on the relative cheap, I could give that a try, too. I seem to remember it being pretty kind in the recoil department.

I checked buds, summit, couple other sites that sometimes has good deals on used guns, no luck so far!

I was on a message board not long ago where they were going for around 345 but I've been on so many boards lately, I don't remember which it was! :banghead:

I got one from Century last year for $299, it was a police trade-in, it was an impulse buy that I added to an order of some other stuff...but to get access to them as an individual I believe you would have to get your C&R and send it in to them......if you are looking for a low recoil 9mm (assuming you're not getting that from useing low recoil ammo) then you might want to look at something like a S&W 5906, Budd's and AIM has them in stock now for the low to mid $300s, police trade-ins.....and they are an all stainless steel gun, which means heavy, which means lower recoil.......they have a good rep....

I used to really want a 5906 but I got to handle one the other day and the grip angle/fit is just all wrong for me. I was pretty amazed, as I had wanted one for quite awhile now. It didn't 'point' for me for some reason. Too bad, lovely gun IMO, I like the squared trigger guard. I had only handled a 4506 previously, and that fit me like gangbusters.

Thanks for the links by the way, I am contacting those individuals

Another option is the Taurus PT92. Similar to the Beretta 92, but much less expensive.

If you aren't familiar with the pistol here is an excellent review by Mr. Camp.

Taurus seems to have an iffy reputation, but the general view is they got the PT92 right, and continue to do so.

Thanks for the info. I would probably consider the PT-92. I am looking for an affordable (read- under 450) 9mm with light recoil and a proper safety.

No luck on the used market for berettas yet...

J&G had a run of police tradins awhile back too. These were 399.

If you look enough you will find one in the sub 400 range as they are way common.

I have the taurus pt99 (a 92 with adjustable sights) -- love it. I did replace the locking block with the Beretta one.

I've seen taurus pt92 used, blued in gun stores for $349.

This is a big, heavy gun with very lower recoil as a result. In addition, the recoil spring is light -- 13 lbs -- and so my wife can rack the slide.

I got the new pt99, stainless, for around $500 from a well known online store. (via a ffl)

The taurus is manufactured in a plant that was a beretta plant, and was bought by taurus. I don't think you'll find very many people complaining about the taurus 92 or 99, because they are identical to berettas' of those earlier years. The major improvement hte berretta made in subsequent years was an improvement to the locking block, reducing failures from about 1 in 4000 rounds to 1 in 15 or 20,000 rounds. You can easily change it out yourself, but if they break while the firearm is in use, SOME of the failures are very difficult to get the gun to disassemble, if both ears break off. If only one ear breaks, easy to disassemble, replace, done.

If you buy a later model beretta, it will have the newer locking block and then you don't have to worry. But if you buy an early (I don't know the exact years) beretta, you'll have the exact same problem as if you had bought a taurus.

Im not sure if you can find one as cheap as youre looking, but i shot my buddies Beretta PX4 next to my 92F. Using the same ammo, the PX4 had noticeably less recoil, even though its 6oz lighter. I also shot better with it too. But something prevents me from selling the 92F. Im not sure what it is.

I bought mine as a police trade in for $429 at the gun show in Pasadena TX. It was extremely clean, 99% of the bluing remained, came with two government mags. It wasn't even on my short list because I ws thinking G19 or CZ 75. I kept going back to that table and finaly bought it. I'm extremely happy with the gun, my wife and 15 YO son love to shoot it. It is as smooth as buttah.

I also found a 22 LR conversion and have 500 rounds of 22 through it with zero failures. it

You can check out gunbroker.com. Also, seems a few police departments in my area are changing their on-duty weapons. If you know of a local department that carries that weapon you may express interest in purchasing one if they change weapons and an officer decides not to buy his/hers from the department. I have that arrangement in place for 92G...when they eventually switch over to Sigs later this year.

Good luck.

I got mine, with 4 factory and 2 aftermarket mags, in the case, with a cheap holster, for $405 plus ship and transfer. It came with the rubber wrap around grips and the plastic factory ones too. I added a set of stainless grip screws just to make it pretty. I see ~$400 ones on Gunbroker quite a lot.
