I called My Sister today, asked Her if now She would pack a gun when She leaves the house? [She recently married and lives on a ranch north of Hwy 90] She replied, "I suppose so", and proceeded to tell me that a Griz went thru the lower part of the ranch where I camped w/Wife when there for wedding.I'll re-evaluate my selection of rifle next visit.

Can we hear more about the Mountain Bear Attack and the Death?
Who died? The Bear? Or the person/animal that attacked it?
The suspense is killing me.

And let us know what caliber rifle you've got so we can debate and critique it's ability for Grizz.

Well ya know, Pergatory, them eskeemos kill polar bears with .22 caliber rifles so it seems to me like all he'd need is a .22. I mean jeeze, if them eskeemos can do it can't just about anybody? (I don't mean to slight eskeemos here but the truth of the matter is thay ain't got no really sufisticayted society don't ya know?)

.22 is perfect, Buck Snort! Just like to know what I'm workin' with.

Now, those Eskimo :)confused:) are a LOT more crafty than one might be lead to believe.

MASTERS of the Fatal Funnel of Ice blocks they are. Their antiquated society has established, over hundreds of years, the most cunning and thrifty way to harvest a Grizz. (Wait....Eskimos and Grizzly Bears? Uhhhh...)
After a week long trek to the nearest hardware store and back for some .22 cartridges, they begin to cut and stack ice blocks for the.....hunt.

After builiding a long corridor that's wide at one end and progressively tighter at the other, the tribe chooses the most inefficient and expendable member to lure the bear by covering himself in Peanut Butter and Molasses. This is a great honor for this individual and he takes great care in covering himself liberally with the mixture.

Then after locating and luring the bear, the tribe takes great pleasure in kicking back and observing as the luring tribesman comes screaming back to the ice corridor, Grizzly in tow, and squeezes out the far end and stands just out of reach of the great bear while the younger, stronger hunters stand atop the ice walls with...:uhoh:.. .22's. Once the bear is in place he is most adequately dispatched with a shot or two from the Tribe's trusty rifles.

Another successful hunt, but the useless members must be weeded out some way so they are sent out in service of their tribe until they don't make it back.

It is a beautiful ceremony in the honor of preserving the life of the people.

Is this the griz attack that happend north of Yellowstone NP a few days ago? Jefferson, you need to be a bit more specfic. Hwy 90? You mean I-90?

The attack took place at the Soda Creek Campground in Montana just outside the North East entrance to the park in the Cook City area of Montana. I live in Chouteau County Montana north of the Missouri not far from where the Teton River joins the Marias River joins the Missouri. We've had three Grizzlies in the county this year and we're out on the prairie, no mountains to speak of, just lots of wheat.

BEFORE THE GUN.

they use to kill them with a stick and a sharp rock tied on the end of it ;)

me I'm going to take a 44MAG AS A MINIMAL, if I'm going any were the critters are bigger then me and might think of me as FOOD.

I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH SHARKS OR BEARS.

as long as they don't start any s--- wont be any s--- started.

sad thing is WE are the INVADERS into there shrinking world.

SAD THAT SOME GET KILLED EVERY YEAR (PEOPLE AND ANIMALS)

PEOPLE HAVE THE EDUCATION ANIMAL'S JUST LEARN FROM DOING.

putting the animals to death only makes people feel better I'm sure other animal's in the ares don't learn anything from it except
PEOPLE ARE DANGEROUS AND JUST CAUGHT ONE OF US AND TOOK BIG BEAR AWAY SOME WERE

THING THAT GETS ME
are the PEOPLE that move to the country and then complain there are wild animal's in the yard, or that nut that buys a house next to an airport and complains about air plains making too much noise,

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY BOUGHT THE HOME WERE THEY DID.

REMEMBER WE ARE SUPPOSE TO BE THE SMART ONES HERE ON EARTH
(FOR NOW )

i would not want to be the one that was attacked or have anyone attacked while out in the woods but we always put our self in harms way , if i was the one attacked yes i would do what ever i could to protect me and mine, and i guess catching the attacker (man or bear) i would want revenge also, maybe it is because humans are a revengeful specie's to start with!:(

Point?

Was there a point to this thread?

Well, I originally thought there might be, but you have to admit, it is only peripherally related to guns.

Somewhere in the outer orbit.

Let's not agonize over it any further.
