J.Lo and her 2-year-old twins can rest easy at night: Daddy is packing heat.

Singer Marc Anthony is one of dozens of celebs, millionaires and high-profile athletes authorized to carry a concealed weapon in the city, records show.

And the number of A-listers who have guns is growing.

"We have seen an increase in celebs seeking their own permits," said John Skylar Chambers, a lawyer who has helped New Yorkers get gun permits for more than 20 years.

And that is just another reason why rulings like D.C. and Chicago with a little more "meat" in them should be passed.

Their lives are no more valuable than any one else's. Only their bank account may be and that is mostly because of the funds provided from those who are not legally allowed to carry.

As challenges to New York State and New York City's weapons laws go forward this type of corruption will only help our case.

Pistol licenses in New York are a matter of public record and the application and supporting documents can be requested by any government agency for cause. I would be very interested to see the "justification" filings for some of these permits since I know they don't exist.

The New York State Pistol Licensing system was founded based upon the desire of the State Legislature to disarm blacks, Jews, asians, Catholics in general, Irish and Italians in particular and anyone else who wasn't white and Protestant. This is well documented in the transcripts of the deliberations of the Legislature. The Sullivan Law was also specifically designed to enable gangsterism on the part of Tim Sullivan's subordinates.

Let NYS and NYC keep going their own way. They are providing the very rope with which the Supreme Court will hang them similar to the Sheriff out west who said that he was denying an anti-abortion protest leader a CCW permit due to his decision to exercise his 1st Amendment rights. NYC is just as blatant. My hope is that the SCOTUS will take the City and State to task for their malfeasance.

I live in upstate NY and our county's Sheriff is pro gun big time! Yes, it takes a lot of time to get a permit in these parts, but once you get it, you know you have been cleared by everyone, including the FBI. To loose the permit, you've got to be an idiot and do something really stupid. The big factor is this state is it's a concealed carry state and it damn well better be concealed or you will get tagged for brandishing.

P.O.2010 may be right where he lives but he is totally wrong where I live.

Oh my god double standards!

Seriously, yes it does suck. I don't really see why you'd be surprised about it though. The "elite" have always had it better over the "common" man.

More disturbing than the price of the application is the demonstration of need. They're saying that one person's wad of cash is more deserving of protection than another person's child.

yeah, its kind of like how these celebrities can be convicted of repeat Felony drug charges....and only spend a week in prison......then write a book about how hard their life is.......

but if i were convicted of a felony drug charge.....ide rot in prison for 20 years

all men are created equal......yeah right.

Hate to say this but the golden rule has always belonged to those with the gold. The law should be equal for all. Nice concept but hard in practice.

Sorry, but this is more political and philosophical than legal...

Activism suggestion: A letter writing campaign to editors, publicizing the issue of Pretty People getting the permits while "just folks" cannot.
