I've been playing around with my NEF 410 lately and the stock has been getting on my nerves. It's about 20 years old and shows wear on the left side, front grip, and other some minor dings. I'm thinking of a Euro. Cherry or maybe a Blonde Pearwood stain as I'll sand down to bare wood. My real question is what type of clear coat should I use on the top. I've used just about eveything over the years, but I wasn't sure if any brands tend to hold up better on firearms.

Okay guys I wanted to upload a few shots I decided to do something a little "project-ish". Basically I said hey I'm sick of walnut, cherry, plain oak etc so lets try something new. I used the Golden Oak Minwax and Golden Oak Poly from Min. to do this. The stock was rough it has seen some wear and I should have sanded it better but, this is beater gun and will see more brush etc. It has a very unique look the grain looks superb IMHO and the Minwax did a great job of bringing that out. Overall I enjoy how the firearm appears to change color (seems golden in certain light then looks a bit darker as you turn) and the poly is a semi gloss so it is smoother as silk and shines. Not everyones cup of tea but I do enjoy how it turned out. lol maybe the 91/30 is next on my "to fix" list now.

The first pic is deceiving as the stock had heavy wearing and some chips/dents etc. Second is right after the main strip prelimn. sanding. Third is the final product.

I actually showed it to a few guys I work with and they liked it as well. My neighbor asked me to help him strip his JC Higgins and use a cherry coating on it. I sent him to Home Depot to get the same brand I used, he purchased the American Cherry. Hopefully he will let me post a picture when he gets done. Thanks for the links again guys.
