Found a used full size 1911 Rock Island .45 at a local gun store. There was not a scratch on it and had Hogue grips already on it. It really felt great in the hand.

I’ve read several forums on these guns and have yet to read anything really bad about them so, I took a chance on this one myself. The price was reasonable, $400 out the door.
Wow, what a pistol. Took it to the range 3 times now and have been impressed every time. It can hold a 1” group at 10 yds and a 1.5” group at 25 yds. I was at the “Churt Pit” (a local popular shooting area owned by the County) and was shooting quart size plastic jugs at 75 yds. Had a blast. (no pun intended).

The way I look at this is, I saved $700 and got a really good shooter. All the more money for ammo.

I have the tactical model. The Rock Islands really are a great value. I bought mine to shoot until I could afford a "better" 1911. Now I plan on buying another Rock. Probably the 9mm tactical.:D:D

RIA and some clones are the only 3.5" compact 1911 that is well known to be the most reliable compact gun until you hit the $1k Colts.
Mine is the RIA CS Officers 3.5" and its in my ccw rotation and will be used more as the weather warms up for IWB carry.

I have the Tactical in 9mm & 45 both have been good servicable pistoles.
I like my Springfield better but I paid twice as much.

They're great guns for the price. My RIA tactical is very tight. Hell, it's tighter than my EMP.

The only thing I'd do to my RIA would be to put on non-ugly grips, and do a trigger job, because the trigger stinks compared to that of my other 1911s.
