What is the best 9mm round for defense? I just bought Federal 135 grain but have heard good things about the 124 grain.

Would love to hear your two cents.

You realize you posted this in the reloading forum?

I like 135 grain cast bullets in 9mm, but it's not my primary home defense gun (it's about number 3 on the list) and I don't carry it.

I agree, this probably doesn't belong in reloading...

I usually like Golden Saber 124 +P, but I've been looking for some Gold Dots recently.

As long as you stay with the major brands, I think its more of a question of what will function in your gun the best and what you can get in any kind of quantity (reliability testing, future use etc.)

There are many posts about this with all sort of different opinions.
First, the best ammo is the one that is more accurate whether it is the pistol, you, or both.
Good brands are: GOLD DOT, HYDRASHOCKS and CORBON.

CORBON JHP 115gr rates 90.6% in the Marshal and Sanow street stoppers index which is pretty high and very close to the best .40cal bullet. Besides this index the facts have been extensively documented by many studies.

So pickup a few Corbons, Goddots and Federal Hydrashocks and try them to see what your gun and YOU like best. All pretty lethal. Also train every week and get good at placement that is the key to stop a threat.

The most powerful 9mm round is a russian 9mm Grach that following the same principals of some .357SIGs shoots a 65gr solid bullet at 2000fps and exclusively dedicated to defeat body armor and very lethal but this you cannot get in the civilian market although you can reproduce somehow with certain solid low grain bullets. I do not recommend any reloaded ammo for carry. It is risky and extra liability something should happen.
