I've been wanting to head out and try some new hand guns. I have friends that will let me shoot their's. However, I'm trying to ease my wife in to things. She would be more comfortable if it was just me and her in a lane.

So, I need some help finding ranges with a wide assortment of rentals in .380, 9mm and .38spl.

I would really like to find a place that rents a couple of guns in the service model size for .38spl. I could let her try a Taurus 85b3, buy it is basically a snubby with an extension. Not great for trying to get somebody comfortable.

Any suggestions?

I have never rented from them, and don't patronize the store (though it isn't because of a bad experience, only that I have a better one that is closer to home), but Shooters Express in Belmont, NC is the only one that I know of that has rentals. My favorite gunshop, Eagle Guns [& Range] (located in Concord, NC) is opening a new range in March/April, but I don't know if rentals will be made available (wouldn't hurt to ask; their primary number is: 704-788-9013). Either way, Eagle is a great place to drop into if you live in or often visit the greater Charlotte area. I think you'll find Mike "Preacher" Threadgill and his employees to be very knowledgeable and nice folks (P.S.: I don't work for em'...well i'm not on the payroll anyway ;)).

:)

Try Caliber's Indoor Gun Range in Greensboro if you're around the area. It's one of the best ranges I've ever been to. They have a good amount of guns to rent out.

I probably should have been more clear abou the area. The Guilford, Orange, Durham, western Wake County corridor is where I'm most interested. Of course Chatham, Person, Caswell, and parts of Granville county as well.

Shooter's Express does have a great selection of guns. I might have to make the trek down to Belmont.

Can't help you with anything in your area, but i'd still recommend dropping into Eagle if you decide to head down to Shooters (it's pretty much on the way).

:)

Calibers in Greensboro all the way! I lived in Charlotte for 5 years, and was willing to drive to Calibers instead of Shooters Express. Better rental gun selection, better ventilation at Calibers.

I tried out Handgunners in Burlington. I will not go back. I went with a friend of Mexican descent. The first question out of the counter guy's mouth was, "Do you have a resident alien card?" My friend was born in Texas. His family has lived in Texas since before WWII.

I checked out their policies online because I was thinking of calling and complaining. The counter guy was with in their guidelines. They have a lot of policies that I just can't agree with.

We turned around and walked out.

personal defense and handgun safety center, raleigh 919-779-6880. pdhc.com. Machine gun rentals, private shooting room available. The room allows you to shoot whill moving, practice draws, and is less distracting because you are the only ones in there, a plus with new shooters. You have to be a member to use the room but the rates are reasonable. Also, they have a pretty good staff.
I spent a lot of time there when I was working in Durham. I took a first time shooter there and he got fire an Mp5. They give you instructions and stand there with you while shooting full auto.
plenty of handgun rentals available.
