Anyone Shooting the USSG / Zastava Z5 22lr...Looking for feed back on these fit/finish especailly ACCURACY etc. Let me know looks like a great value for $225ish. I love the Walnut stock and deep blue finish I see in the pictures.

That's fair they have also been imported as the:

Remington Model 5
USSG Z5
Zastava 99
CZ99
Charles Daly Superior II

Well, I have a CD II and it's very good in all areas. A very good value too!

With a little bedding and a re-crown:

Timbertoes, did the crown look dinged initially, or have asymmetrical burn pattern after shooting? Or did you just re-crown to try and increase accuracy. That is a major improvement, thanks for the before and after targets.

The factory crown, while not a "target" crown, did not look bad. but just the typical "rounded" end of a barrel, with a real crown about .06" deep at I would guess about 45 degress.

I had it recrowned, simply to have it done. My first time to send a gun out.
A person from rimfire central did it, A .22 benchrest enthusiast,he is about an hour or so away from where I live. The simple, and somewhat minimal bedding I did (not a pro!) also had to help. The result i really liked the best....was that those targets, the action screws are nice and tight. no action screw "exact settings" games to play!! :)

Only the Magazine seems to be the cons to the Z5.
it can shave/deform a lead bullet - because the spring? is really stiff, and requires way to much force to load the magazine. I even gave up on loading 5 rounds.
I single loaded for these targets.
Heard that Mossberg Plinkster mags can be easily modifed to fit.

Zastava - CD Supperior II 22

@jpwilly,

I have a Zastava Z5 .22lr, imported by Charles Daly. I picked up the rifle in Oct 2010--never fired. When I got it, it was caked with cosmoline. I spent a lot of time cleaning before I fired it. I'll share some pros and cons about the rifle--my experience after shooting 500 rounds in this gun. I am not sure if you still read these posts so I am writing you directly, but will post on your thread as well.
PROs:
- shoots at least 1/2" moa @ 100 yds
- easy to clean
- light to carry
- easy access to safety
- adj trigger (haven't adj it yet)
- Forged steel barrel
- Barrel still cool after 10 rds
- attractive
- comes with sling studs

CONs:
- stiff trigger out of the box
- Main complaint - bolt can have trouble cycling the next round after when dirty (starts around 40 shots) not sure how to fix
- Hard to chamber a single round with using the mag

The rear iron was hard to adj -- so removed and put on a BSA Sweet 22 scope which is calibrated for 40 gr. It really likes the 40 gr Fed Target Grade and CCI Mini Mag. But of course, every gun is different.

Hope this give you some in sight.

Just shot my remington five today, This little Zastava is a real pain to cycle the bolt, even with round nose shells, I would like it to chamber the conical cbee shells also, there is a heck of a step and no ramp whatsoever, is this typical of the others? Ill try to attach a pic soon

I'm missing my rear sight, any idea (looking at yours) what may be a match for a replacement- Lyman, Weaver? Maybe some measurments I can use. Thks
