OK, I just made my first attempt at hand polishing my SP101 with Mothers Mag polish and a couple of micro-fiber cloths. This took about 90 minutes. I'm moderately pleased with the result. It doesn't look like high gloss chrome like some of the photos I've seen but this was less than two hours. In the second photo you can see a little glob at the corner of the cylinder window near the cylinder face. Oops!

Very very nice. I like it. Makes it look more nicely finished than stock, but doesn't have the gaudy blinding blingy look of the VERY polished ones.

It looks good, the stainless on that gun when new wasn't buffed like some other revolvers you may have seen...Mothers like flitz is only a polish it won't remove the buffing marks just polish them.

Hey it looks good man. I just did the same thing to my SP101, and it came out about the same. My pics would look the same except I have CT laser grips on mine. Non-pimp looking, but better than it was by far. I'm going to hit it again, and try and brighten it up a little more. It's a working gun, so I figure there is no real need to try and get a mirror finish on it.

I also polished up my S&W 460V. The finish looks nicer than it did when it came from the factory. I'm probably going to keep polishing that on and see what kind of shine I can get on it.

Webhobbit, your Ruger now looks clean and well cared for, not all Pimped out. If you want more of a shine just spend another 90 minuets with the Mother's and a cotton rag.

I think I'll just do 90 - 120 minutes after every cleaning (and only do that after I shoot it). I plan to start shooting once a month and rotate between my SP101 and my 686 (4 inch).

And thanks for the encouragement guys. For the record I paid $5.39 for the can from a local Advance Auto parts store.

I have applied it with a Dremmel tool felt wheel. Mothers works wonders. So does Flitz metal polish.

Mother's on a rag is great for brightening yellowed SS and getting rid of fine scratches. When you get serious about polishing, especially a Ruger with their deep machine marks, you gotta bust out some other compounds and power tools....I polished out my SP's cylinder, but left the rest matte.

Odd, I would have thought Flitz would be finer. I often seen Flitz recommended for nickel guns. I've never used Flitz, because I couldn't find it locally. A while back, I decided to polish a decades old nickel plated gun. It is unfired but was showing some haze from age. I read a lot of guys used Flitz, but gave Mother's a try....Mother's did a great job and did not damage the finish one bit. The gun looks like new.
