My EDC guns are American made. My primary carry is a S&W M&P 9C and my bug was a Ruger LCP which is being replaced by a Bodyguard 380. My primary long range rifle is a Savage FCP-K. For plinking I my range buddy, my daughter, and I both have Savage 22s. She also has a Ruger 10/22. All of which I bought based on preference and quality of the firearm. I haven't found anything foreign of otherwise I prefer.
The rest of my firearms are almost ALL foreign. They hail from Russia, Switzerland, China, Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Philippines, and Romania. I love all those firearms for their history, practicality, and value.
Most people I hear whining and crying about people who buy a foreign firearm probably spend a tiny fraction of their income on firearms and spend a LARGE majority of their income on foreign products they use in their daily life. I find it a little hypocritical to say the least. If they truly believed what they said American companies wouldn't have to move their manufacturing overseas compete because there would be a practical premium on selling American made products. I don't think its a minority of people who wish the US was still country making its way as a manufacturing country.

Looking at those numbers I realize there is no hope. I estimate some out there think item marked Made in PRC was created in California.

No, I own more foreign made firearms than US made ones.

The nice thing is that FN, HK, Sig and a few other companies are now manufacturing guns here in the US even though they are foreign owned companies, so I don't feel quite as guilty because those companies are creating jobs for Americans.

All the same if there is a gun made in a foreign country and I want it then I'll buy it, whether or not it's marked "made in the USA" has very little impact on my decision to purchase.

In the end the fact of the matter is most foreign made guns are of better quality than American made ones, it's sad but it's true, the prime example of this is Sig.

If I only bought American I wouldn't have my Hi Power, and that would suck. It would be hard to buy American only when you have manufacturers like CZ and FN out there.

Voted "no".

Last three firearms I purchased have been made in America, however. Mossberg, Keltec and Marlin repectively. That won't stop me from buying a cheap H&R Excell Auto Five and shave nearly $200-300 dollars of the next closest semi-auto shotgun, however. My next revolver probably will be, but I'm by no means tied to made in America simply to pay for branding.

Here's where I read it:

and just found this in our own archive from a while back:

http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-273927.html
last post on that thread talks about the sigs.

I'm of the opinion that you may not be able to avoid MiM parts at this point. Seems to be in everything. There are also lots of threads in 1911 forums about this. I'm not a 1911 guy, but that group seems to be freaking out in mass about metal injection moulding.

I'll not buy Chinese and, as much as possible, try to avoid accessories from there also. All else being equal I'll buy American but, all else isn't exactly equal. Therefore I have a pretty nice Spanish double barrel and a couple of German .22's. I prefer to buy American but am not going to be held hostage by American companies if their products are inferior or overpriced.

THat pretty much sums up my attitude. China sits poised to become the world's dominant economic power, and I'm certainly not going to help them along. Beyond that, I prefer American and go out of my way to patronize American goods, BUT I would like to own a couple of nice European handguns someday (CZ, Walther, etc.)

I just went against my general policy of buying American firearms the other day and ordered a foreign made (not Chinese) gun only because it was listed at a FRACTION of what it's worth. Not entirely sure the deal will go through...I'll tell you about it if it does.

I would not own some of my favorite guns if I only bought guns made in the US. Some have no US equivelant or anything even close (Saiga 12 for example).

I'm not surprised by the voting. There are too many good guns not made in the US.

Nope. While I prefer to buy American, I will not buy an inferior product only because it is American. That does nobody any good, and just endorses an American company making an inferior product (if they indeed do). Sometimes it isn't about being an inferior product, but me just liking something else more (maybe it fits me better, for example).

I have a handgun from Croatia.

Two other handguns from the good ol USA.

A shotgun from China.

The last two handguns I bought were German. A SIG and Walther PPK. Both now made in the USA.

When I buy new, I buy American usually.

When I feel I need a foreign gun, I try to buy used so I am not supporting foreign economies. :)

US, Brasil, Germany, China (norinco SKSs), Spain, Russia, Poland

Most are American..Ruger, Remington, Smith and Wesson, Winchester, Mossberg, Savage among the better ones. I have some American junk I hang on to, .22 mainly, like my Phoenix Arms HP22 and my Ramline Exactor pistol and my charter arms Explorer 2 pistol. It works, but not all American made stuff is top of the line, ya know. But, I like collecting cheap .22s, affordable hobby.

Marlin, Winchester, Springfield, Smith & Wesson and Ruger all make up my Made in USA firearms.

Glock (Austria), Browning (Japan and Belgium) make up the foreign sourced firearms. Dumped all of the Tauras (Brazil) sourced excuses for firearms except one (wife's Model 94 which has been back twice for major repairs).

I just purchase from quality manufacture countries with brands that are at least relatively reputable. US, Germany, UK, Russia, Switzerland, etc (I will never buy from China). I do have I Judge, made in Brazil, but designed by american engineers; some of which are former S&W employees. My two over/unders, both Browning Citori 625s in 12 and 28 ga have barrels made in Japan by Miroku. In all, it just mainly depends on the quality of a certain gun for me. Sure, I look at the brand, but that is not the dealbreaker if it does not come from a reputable company. If Hi-Point made a nice looking rifle with a wood stock that could shoot 1/2" groups at 200 yds and was offered in several common "good" calibers and for a competitive price, sure, I would take a good look, at least its made in the U.S. ( The only good thing about it.)

BTW- The thing about Hi-Point...... never going to happen. hi-point-carbine%2Bnew.jpg
:barf:

I have guns from all over the world in my gun safe. My needs and a lot of my wants are pretty well covered. The last few guns I've bought have been Colts. I've been Snake Bit.:uhoh:

Most of my firearms, by far, are made in the USA, wholly or in part. I cannot think of any imported handguns that I own, though some have imported parts. I have some Browning Miroku-chester rifles. My shotguns are USA-made.

I check the labels on everything I buy, in an effort to buy what is made in the USA, and minimize what is made in China. I don't hate China or the Chinese, but think it wrong to ship all of the world's manufacturing jobs to China.

Example: What memory cards do y'all use in your digital cameras? I use Delkin, made in the USA, and truly fast and excellent. Sandisk memory cards are made in China.
