best red dot?

No specific knowledge on those three (I use a Burris Fastfire) but the scope types (your second two) might make moving target acquisition a little tougher. I like being able to have a fuller field of view looking around/over the holographic type rather than searching "through" a tube. FWIW

I'm happy with my ultra dot's made in Japan lifetime warranty and not so pricey....Vortex also has a lifetime warranty for not much money but I haven't tried them.

This is what I have on my Buckmark... I am super happy with it too. I have no idea how it would hold up to magnum recoil though.



The green dot is a very good option in low light.

The Millett Red dot that I tried on my Contender in .44 Mag would not hold its zero from round to round. Whether it is a single scope problem or is indicative of the company, it has soured me on the Millett name forever. That coupled with the fact that the GP100 sight inserts they sold required fitting to work on a GP100 makes me suggest that you steer away from Millett products.

I am using a Tru Glo 2X dot on one rifle and have been very happy with the quality. I have used Simmons, Tasco, Aimpoint, and others in this price range in the past and most do fine on low recoiling firearms. The 44 however is going to have a much higher recoil impulse and I am not sure how well these inexpensive dots will hold up to that recoil. I think I would step up to the next level and go with a Burris Fast FireII or similar.

I think the Millet is a good value. Have one on a S&W 44 Mag. Probably 300 rounds through it. Also have a Matchdot on a SW 686 357. I like both of these sights.

Note the adjustment/on off switch boss is against the front ring. If not the tube will jump/slide forward as the gun recoils.

First: To be fair, I know nothing concrete about the choices you listed.
Sub $100 optics on a magnum handgun strike me as asking for trouble. For all I know they may be fine, but I don't know. I stuck an clearance rack BSA ($45) on my MK3. It works great so far. I suspect that had I stuck it on a .44 mag, I would have had to sweep pieces of it up off the floor of the range by now.
Not being an optics expert when I was shopping for an optic, I fell on the tried and true method of searching products from long established brands with a reputation for quality. Burris & Leupold were my first choices. I ended up buying a Burris Fastfire 2 for my S&W 627. It seemed to be a decent compromise between quality and price ($200+/-). Yeah, I probably missed out on a super bargain somewhere, but I am fairly confident that I ended up with a good product.
It falls back to the rule that's quoted on this forum fairly often: "You don't need to spend a fortune, but spend enough."

take a look at the c-more sts.i have it in my 10/22. does not wash out in sun like some .a little more money then you might want to spend but still reasonable. i bought a cheap one and it washed out and had to buy this one. spent more in the long run.

I use the Millet on my Super Blackhawk and never a problem, even with max handloads. Also have one on a 45-70 Marlin Guide gun. I think they are a good value.

I have a Truglo, if you pay shipping I will send it to you. You can waste a hundred rounds of ammo then give it some one else.

I use a Millet on ruger srh 454. no problems in 800 rounds of stout stuff. The first time you shoot it ,tighten yje mount screws while the gun is hot ! and use locktight ! Kevin

I'd save up for an Aimpoint. I don't think there is any other more proven dot sight in existance. The Comp M/M2/M3/M4 are in frontline service and I have one that is just outstanding. Aimpoint makes other types/sizes/magnification as well. I think that replacing any of the ones you listed several times will lead you to the conclusion that if you want/have to rely on optics, you have to spend some money. As a plus, my Aimpoint Comp M3 has been on for more than 2 years and the battery is still good.

What is your expert ± opinion for a holo-sight on a Desert Eagle, and Lone Eagle, and S&W .460. Trying to decide on only one, but a GOOD one. Currently mounting the TriJiCon ACOG-A.R.M.S., #19, 4x32, "Jn8:13" LightOfTheWorld, but would like a holographic for the weight. Thanks. DAO
