Just saw this at the pawn shop. they have it priced at $250. it was made in 1978. here is the hesitation, the forearm screw, barrel band screw and mag cap retainer screw are all wrong (replaced with what ever was laying around) has a slip on recoil pad and not butt plate underneath. and the finish is about 60%. it has seen some use, thats for sure. I think this might make a good winter project rifle if I can get it for $200 or so.

go for it or not worth the time?

Heck yes.

Have you prcied a new one? More like $450 and the new Remington made guns are having all sorts of QC issues.

Parts are readily available from Numrich.

I picked up one well-scuffed but otherwise correct for $300 out-the-door after last season. $250 doesn't sound unreasonable but if this is on-the-list, I'd consider shopping.

well, I went back and got it for $225. The stock is not original, the finish is better than I thought it was and I have 3 screws I need to replace. I gave it a quick cleaning, looked like someone lubed it with a grease gun. I have pulled less grease off surplus rifles. So, a few parts to order and figure out what to do about the stock finish mis-match but all in all I'm happy. Now to get some ammo and see how she shoots.
