I was just wondering if anyone ever had problems in getting correct fitting replacement parts for their black powder children :neener:
I am missing a screw on my pietta 1860 army and have ordered replacements twice from the likes of dixie gun works and possibly VTI but my memory fails me. Both times the screws which were meant for pietta 1860's failed to fit. And when i say failed to fit I mean failed to fit anywhere on the gun even, so its not like I ordered a screw and tryed to use it in the wrong part of the gun. Anyone else had problems like this? My 1860 has a kirst konverter so I have been hesitant to shoot it with one of the grip frame screws missing, any suggestions on where I might find some that actually fit? The screws i keep getting are a bit too large I believe or the wrong thread size. Any help the esteemed members of THR could throw my way would be greatly received and appreciated.
As always, thanks gentlemen :D

Italian BP revolvers can be some of the crudest..most hand fitted..non-standard..most produced by the most factories handguns in history...Or they can be damn good, well made guns too..just depends on how old..who made it for what importer..at what price/quality level..

Nothing was really standardized between makers..you may have parts for an Armi San Marco..or a Uberti..or whatever.

it makes me long for a nice screw bin of many varied sizes and thread patterns that i could just try out any screws i wanted to all willy nilly :p

I have had more luck fitting European imported BP guns with replacement screws by going to my local hardware store, and trying different screws from different bins in the Hardware aisles. Sometimes they are metric, sometimes not, sometimes the maker changed in mid ...., making...., so who knows. Then I often have to modify the heads on the screws with a file or two to make them less modern, but they do work.

OH, and unlike me if you find some that fit, buy extra, and convert them and have them standing by for the next time a screw goes wandering.

im pretty sure now that i got them from dixie both times, so perhaps now i should give VTI a try, thanks fingers :) i got a walker from legionnaire several months back and still haven't tried it out yet! perhaps i can talk a buddy into going tommorow as its my birthday :p i really want to try that and my muzzle loading .50 that i also haven't fired yet. i really gotta try to get some pictures up of those two sometime...
