Is there somewhere I can send my wife's deer skin to have it tanned for buckskin that doesn't charge $20/sqft? There is a tannery very close to me here but they only do hair on stuff and everything I can find online is between $15-$25/sqft, then shipping on top of that and you are looking at a very expensive skirt.

check out rockymountanners.com they have done stuff for me in the past. i think they charge a flat fee for tanning and imho it wasnt bad. i wanna say 75 bucks for hair off deer skin tanning.

I was thinking about that but I always thought it took weeks to do, I might talk to my wife about it. We are leaving for a Christmas vacation in Germany in a couple of weeks and moving as soon as we get back so time is a little short.

Fold it up skin side together, put it in a garbage bag in the freezer. It will be fine to begin your work on brain tanning it after your trip.

I did deer hides years ago.. I bought some kits from cableas.. Lime was used to take the hair off...soaked the hides in lime water, check every day to see if the hair will pull put,,,It sure was a lot of work...LOL..
