You have an H&R 1st Model 2nd Variation SAFETY HAMMER DOUBLE ACTION made between 1884 and 1887. It was made to handle .32 S&W (the short one) and .32 H&R LONG both BLACK POWDER cartridges. At the time that gun was made, the .32 S&W LONG had not yet been invented (introduced in 1996). Shooting smokeless powder loaded cartridges in this 120+ year old gun will cause stress on the cylinder and may cause a nasty failure. RETIRE it.

I think that intro date for .32 S&W Long is 1896. It came out along with S&W's first swingout cylinder revolver.
