Questions on the Model 70 Featherweight Compact

I think it's got a smaller stock, right? Unless you're fairly small, I'd go with the Fwt, not the compact. You want the stock to fit well.

I've got a Fwt from the 80's and I love it.

I like the M70's.

Get one with a soft recoil pad. Now many new rifles come with a thick soft Deceletrator pad.

I almost bought one last summer but opted for the regular featherweight instead. It just fit so much better even though the LOP difference is only 1/2 inch (I think) it makes a huge difference in the feel. As far as accuracy and quality go I think the new m70 is the best bolt rifle I've ever owned. I have 3 of them and they are my favorite deer rifles I've had. If you don't mind stainless, the stainless barrel and receiver contrasts the wood very nicely. But it'll cost about $100-150 more than the blued version.

A.rifleman is right, the thick decelerator pad that comes on them work really well. One of my m70's is a supergrade in 300 mag and it honestly has less felt recoil than the two 30-06's I've had. Even less than one that was an auto loader (BAR)
