I just bought a glenfield 30A
Now I need to purchase ammo.
Can anyone recommend something?
It will be for hogs.
And I would need some decent ammo too

My Marlin 30AW likes the Rem 170-Gr "Core-Lokt" softpoints the best. I havent tried the Hornady Lever-revolution stuff in mine yet.

My Marlin eats 150 gr Rem core locks. Sale price is usually about $15.

That cartridge has killed 4 whitetails and about 10 hogs. I've shot it 14 times except at targets!

thats what i planned on buying. but ive heard alot of good stuff about the hornady leverlution but at $24 a box idk. which is why im asking.
i use core lokts in my 30-06 and was thinking of using them in my 30-30

Another for Core-Lokt. Haven't tried the Hornady LeverEvolution in the field yet (don't fix what ain't broke) but the stuff does well at the range.

My wife and I routinely use "Core-Lokt" 150gr in our Marlin 336's and both guns seem to like it.

The last two or so years I used my Marlin 30-30 for deer before it retired to the safe, I had good results with the leverlution ammo. Cant remember weight bullets tho.

For pigs I reckon you cant beat a 150 to 170 gr flat nosed slug. I use sierra 170 grs in reloads and they stop em dead. Most pigs are shot at under 50 yards so why waste money on a bullet designed to go 3-400 yards. Mind you I've had as good results woth wheel weight cast bullets as well. Shot placement counts for a lot.!

They are all great. I love the LE for deer. Like any rifle, your rifle is likely to shoot one load better than the rest. Find that load and stock up on ammo from that same batch/run.

The Core-Lokt has a really proven track record, and I have heard nothing but good about the Leverevolution from Hornady, at least in the 30-30. For hogs, though, I would stick with the good heavy 170gr stuff.

You may laugh... but my Winchester 94 shoots awesome with Monarch 150 grain (which is really re-branded Prvi Partizan). It is good reloadable stuff too. Monarch/Prvi makes a 175 grain one too, but I haven't tried any out yet. But the 150 grainers make a one-hole group for 25m zeroing, from prone with a sling.

Hornady sells the Leverevolution bullets on their own. And with rifle rounds you can save a significant amount of cost if you get even a modest reloading setup. Reloading makes the cost affordable for range plinking fun too.

150 or 170r core-lokt is the go to 30-30 load, though winchester's 150gr HPs get rave reviews from deer hunters, shame they won't sell the component bullets to handloaders.

back before i sold my 30-30 i used 150 gr. core-lokts with good success out to 100 yards on deer and the stray coyote...then i tried the hornady lever-evolution 160 grainers and they were so good i sold the rifle!...whats the logic behind that you ask?....it showed me the potiential of a centerfire rifle with spitzer projo's and got me interested in long range shooting.

My model 94 loves 150gr Core-Lokts. But people talk about Leverution ammo like it's voodoo magic. I need to try some...

i highly recomend federal fusion i useto shoot rem core lokts but recently try the fusion 150gr went from shooting 3-4 in grps to 3/4 - 1 in grps at 100 yds. seriously you will not regret trying this ammo .

Hornady Evolution 160 grain is good accurate ammo but expensive. 150 grain core lokt Remington is good and so is the Federal 150 grain. How close will the hogs be? If close i'd save my money and get the Remington or Federal 150's.

My 336 30-30 does far better with the heavier 170 gr (Win or Rem) than with 150 grain stuff. I have not used the Leverevolution ammo yet in 30-30 but for 30-30 velocities, I think the SST bullet should be effective. I think there is reasonable doubt about the SST/FTX etc. at terminal velocities over 2000 fps with early fragmentation and insufficient penetration. But for 30-30 rounds with likely terminal velocities in the 1200 - 1500 fps range, I think it will be effective and give some extra reach and flatter trajectory.
