Sarah Palin's "Alaska" On TLC...

Thank you for the insight. I will be spending some time in Alaska, in the future, to get a taste of that refreshing culture.

Well let's just put the garbage back on TV we call reality shows instead and disparage Sarah like a moronic character who did not resonate at all with the American conservatives. Can't say I agree with all of her views, but I sure agree a whole lot more with her than with Obama.

In any case, bash away folks at Sarah since it is open season on her apparently even in gun forums.

I won't have any part of it.

I did quite enjoy seeing aspects of Alaska I will never likely see again in her TV program whether you agreed with all of her positions or not. It was a way in which I could recapture some of my lost youth and show my wife where I grew up at the same time.

What a beautiful hunk of land and a different way of life that her show did capture in many ways. If folks find that a waste of digital storage, so be it. I found her show quite refreshing instead of the usual T&A and obnoxious behavior and language on every other reality show out there. I guess good old fashioned folks are not welcome in the USA any longer and are only a source of derision and ridicule.

By the way, I wish I had accomplished as much as Ms. Sarah Palin by the time I was her young age. In any case, after all that she has been through being unfairly maligned at every drop of the hat even here on THR, I am quite happy that she can now laugh all the way to the bank. Think about that for a while and good for her and her family.

I'm getting a kick out of this thread... A bunch of guys that know little, or nothing about Alaska, all telling how things are done or should be done there.

Perhaps you should spend some time there to see what it's REALLY like before you are so sure about yourself??

For where SP was raised, she is a pretty good outdoorsman, her father and husband are "been there done that" folks, and i respect SP for what she has acccomplished in her life.

I know of where she and her family lives, how the hunting is done there and i'm glad they have put out a show, that's pro gun and pro hunting.

While I'm not sure she had enough grasp on foreign affairs to be good at it as president, she's still ahead of the current and last three incumbents as to viewpoints. :D

One thing about a hunter who's vocally pro-2A: "Liberty" is not just a buzz-word for faking out the pro-gun voters.

And she has one helluva lot more and better track record in life than the majority of her detractors. Anybody here ever been a governor? Got standing ovations from thousands? Dealt with seriously sleazoid garbage from the mediahcrities without losing coolth? Killed great big, good-eats critters?

I figure she can hunt out of my camp, any time...

Thanks DM, I was beginning to think, I was a dinosaur all alone here on this thread. Yes, Todd is a bush pilot and a champion "snow machine" racer. That is nothing to sneeze at.

In any case, I am glad SP is having the last laugh all the way to the bank with these sort of folks. Good for her. I found the show quite interesting.

She's the most interesting person as a person whom I have seen on the national stage, in these last couple of dozen years. At least she doesn't bore me out of my skull. (If I hear any more bland-pablum homily as to how, "The future lies ahead," I'm gonna go postal. Where the heck else would the future be, huh?) And in danged near seventy-eight years, I've seen way too many in the way of anti-hunting scum and heard a lot worse BS about life itsownself than she ever thought of saying.

whether i prefer Palin to Obama isn't the issue here. Politics be damned, she looked like a 12 year old on his or her first hunt. My nephew, all of 10 yrs old, shot and killed a mule deer doe @ 200 yards. he didn't need help working the bolt or holding the gun. He made a clean kill with a single shot. He epitomized what a hunter should strive for....a one shot kill made possible with practice and familiarity with one's weapon of choice. Palin looked more unprepared and inexperienced than most first-time hunters I've had the joy of accompanying. The people I hunt with practice with the guns they plan to shoot, and are wholly and fully capable of such things like working a bolt or unloading their own weapon. Palin seemed unable to feel the least bit at hiome with a rifle in her hands, contrary to the images and ideas put forth by the media. A hunter should be familiar with his weapon (which would mean knowing how it operated and how much recoil one could expect) and capable of ID'ing and taking game. If I were ever afield with someone as seemingly clueless about hunting as Plain appeared to be, I'd abort the hunt until I felt safe sharing the field with her. If she planned on VPing the way she hunts, well.......I'll just say this..... There's a reason its "open season" on Palin, but its becasue of her own actions and words. Gun forum or not, I'm entitled to an opinion, and being a candidate for my favored party doesn't give some one a pass for seemingly acting like an idiot. If the media reports portraying Sarah as some rugged hunter-woman were true, I think a basic working knowledge of a simple bolt action rifle shouldnt be too much to expect. If she can fake her way through that, who knows what she'd try to fake her way through as VP. "You betcha".....that I'm glad there was never a snowballs chance in hell of her ever being President. The hunting episode turned the tide when it came to Palin for me. It outed her as a fake, regardless of what her husband or father has done in the outdoors. A hunter who cannot operate their weapon on their own has no right of claiming that title. Shooter....designated trigger finger....possibly...but a hunter? No way

Palin didn’t “need” help working the bolt either, that was just DAD…helping out since she was in a prone position. If you look at the video again…DAD just reaches down and works the bolt, Palin didn’t “hand” the rifle to him, so let’s be fair. And Palin certainly had no one helping her “hold” the rifle, don’t know where you got that from or why you threw that in?

He made a clean kill with a single shot. He epitomized what a hunter should strive for....a one shot kill made possible with practice and familiarity with one's weapon of choice.

Congratulations to you nephew, you can be rightfully proud. Similarly, ONCE Palin was given a rifle that was still zero’d, she ALSO made a clean “one shot” kill, right? (even did it with a weapon she was not familiar with)

If your nephew hand been a handed a rifle that had recently had the optics “knocked off” and he missed several times, would you be as willing to disparage him as you are her?

Watch the video again, you will note that Palin does in fact know how to work the “bolt”.

No argument from me…that ideally: Practicing with the actual weapon you intend to use is beneficial, BUT that is not always practical or even possible depending upon where you hunt and other circumstances.

I’m going to hazard a “guess” here and say that Palin (in the past few years) probably has had “limited” time to hone her shooting/skills. What with being a Wife, Mother, Governor, VP candidate, writing a book, being a spokesperson , etc, etc). Is it that unreasonable that she didn’t look like Craig Boddington on safari?

A hunter should be familiar with his weapon (which would mean knowing how it operated and how much recoil one could expect) and capable of ID'ing and taking game.

Again, she did know how it operates, as for “recoil”…it’s a reasonable question when she was being handed a rifle (the caliber of which she might not have known).

I got the sense the question was more rhetorical (and in jest) since she followed up that question with the tongue in cheek statement “he always says that”, indicating it was an ongoing joke between Daughter and Father.
Read a "little" between the lines, you'll get so much more out of life.

Not to mention the practical aspect of NOT getting a “scope cut” when shooting from prone. But NO……it couldn’t possibly be any of those things, could it?

And are you suggesting that Palin did not know "I.D." she was hunting a Caribou? Please..........just another parting shot from you.

If I were ever afield with someone as seemingly clueless about hunting as Plain appeared to be, I'd abort the hunt until I felt safe sharing the field with her.

And with your current ability to assess the abilities of people you don’t really know, I expect “aborting the hunt” would be a welcome relief for both parties.

+1

Some folks see what they WANT to see, instead of what's actually there.

Like I said, it is open season year round on Sarah Palin and all of her family members as well. I really didn't expect that on a gun forum.

For all the SP haters here on THR, please name one national level politician who has posted a hunting video with a kill shot in the last 50 years for all to see. Just one!! I guess you would rather support all of the anti-gun politicians instead. Go figure.:what::fire::banghead::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Just one of the recent threads in which we are eating our own rather than focus on what the real danger and enemy are.
Sometimes I think it should be called THE HIGH HORSE ROAD.
If I were Todd Palin it would be hard for me to stay out of jail if I were to meet some of the people who have said such terrible things about his wife, worst part is many of them are percieved to be on their side.

Yeah, I would like to see someone call Todd Palin, a four time Iron Dog Champ a fake Alaskan. Get real folks!! How many caribou have the doubters here shot I have to wonder. I suspect Sarah has piled up a whole lot more hunts in Alaska than those folks calling her fake. Perhaps jealous maybe because of her success.

The thing that gets me about this video is the fact that all three persons on the hunt thought it was perfectly safe to take the shot of the animal on the ridge line. That shot is a definate "NO, NO" as far as Hunter Safety goes here in the state of Maine.

Most places out of the way in Alaska, there's no one for miles and miles around, and if there is, you know it because you see/hear them fly in.

It's perfectly safe in Alaska to shoot an animal on a ridge, as you know who's flying in or out.

I've been on many hunts in Ak. where i never saw another hunter for weeks... I could shoot in any direction, up in the air or any where else i wanted..
