Stainless steel, no flash hider, and an 18" barrel. Same overall length.

This is the one I want. Wonder if they will sell it here.

There are some sneaking into the U.S. market even though I don't believe it's an official US offering for Ruger.

From what I've seen most agree that this is the more preferable model. If I had a choice, I would certainly take the export model over the standard version.

These are sneaking over the border into the U.S. from Canada? I want one!

I'm not sure how they are getting out there, and I believe they are intended for more than just Canada. You can search are sites like Gunbroker and find them. They are most often called the "export" model or version. And they typically command a small premium over the normal U.S. version.

Think that they are also sold in Australia. Still, I wish they would ship a batch to Bud's.

Shut up and take my money.

Last year I emailed Ruger and asked if I could buy one in the USA and they said no. I'm sure someone can get it for you. Are there any bigger stores such as bass pro or cabellas that has stores on bot sides of the border? That might work.

Why does the ad say it is alloy steel? Looks to me like the company puts some type of coating over carbon steel in place of parkerizing?

I greatly prefer the 18" barrel for that cartridge, but I would want a threaded muzzle.

While I like the barrel length, I hate how it was only made because of a tyrannical law.

I just got the "regular" one and I really like it - short barrel, muzzle device and all. Shoots great, is really light and maneuverable and with one of the new polymer mags it has a lower profile and handles even better.

Stainless is cool but I'll stick with the one they released here in the US.

Shoot shoot shoot!! I should have waited another month.

I've been specifically looking for the export version of the Ruger for months because 16" is way too short for the .308. The 18" is a little better, and stainless is also a nice touch for a "do all anywhere" rifle. I live in the USA and could not find one for sale anywhere, even on Gunbroker.

So I bought the Tikka Scout and am currently, as I write this, having it modified for a new bottom metal to support 10rd magazines. The Tikka has a 20" barrel.

Even though I'll probably end up liking my Tikka better, for the money I would have bought the Ruger Scout export-version had I found it.

I like the 16" barrel for compact hunting...I like threaded barrel for suppressor. I like iron sights for back ups. I'm happy with how my GSR is configured.
