So I was in Cabelas the other day, and there was this lonely 632 in the display case with a "clearance" sign & what I think is a great price for any stainless Smith, $549. I've been looking for a J frame to carry, and being a handloader have been pretty interested in a 327. So, I said why not & put it on layaway. :) The grips actually feel good in my big hands, it points very naturally, the lockup is tight, and the trigger was very nice for a NIB gun.

Reading around it seems that those who have one love it, and those who don't think there's no need for it. I've got other 38s & 357s so this is a compliment, not a replacement. I know that these may go the way of the dodo so I'd kick myself years down the road for not picking up one of the only ones I've ever seen for sale! That's how I feel about the S&W M940 & M646.

The thing is, after I got home I started looking for a source of brass so I can stock pile some for down the road. I've got an email into Starline to see if they are going to make any more, and who knows with the Federal brass- everyone is out. If I can't find a brass stash should I reconsider picking this gun up? It's kind of in the back of my mind..

Absolutely!

Brass might be a little short right now, but don't forget that the manufacturers run in batches. Just toss a backorder into Starline and kick back for a little bit. It'll be on your doorstep before you know it.

I was about to do the same thing last night as a matter of fact. Now whre is that credit card?............

Ammunition to go has loaded ammo in stock, might give you enough cases to keep you running until the brass order comes in.

Grafs keeps it fairly regularly, but they are out right now. Might be another place to keep an eye on if you don't want to backorder 500 pcs direct from Starline.

Current Starline - I was checking prices on other cartrdges,, but noted
327 Fed Mag is a New Addition at Starline

327 Federal Mag $ 110.00 per 500 uhm, 22 cents each

Wow?!!? they sure gig yah for the new stuff

32 H&R Mag $ 78.00 / per 500 15.6 cents each

32 S&W $ 78.50 per 500

6.4 cents more per case for 1/8" in length?

Best of luck at least it's a revolver and you
don't have to pick it up off the floor like a semi-auto .

I'd grab a SS 3" 632 like yours in a minute for that price! I bought my 2 1/8" 632 Pro (below) for $648 new otd locally 9/11 after a long wait for it's production. I still had some .32 S&WL loads from a prior '.32 experience'. I've shot a couple hundred .327's, ~1k .32 S&WL, and a few .32 S&W and .32 ACP through it. Neat revolver - it will shoot .327 Fed Mag, .32 H&RM, .32 S&WL, .32 S&W, and .32 ACP. Yours has an adjustable rear sight - great for ammo changes.

PS The '60 Pro' style grips are great - but the 115gr Speer Gold Dots in .327 Fed Mag are a handful!

That's a great price for that gun. A local gun store has one used for $800 ish.

I have one. You will like it.

Thanks for the responses all, reinforces that I'm glad I grabbed it when I could. I'll do some brass shopping at these places.

I did hear from Starline, they're saying 8-10 weeks. So that plus all the info above, they're available. I don't mind waiting. I'm excited! This'll give me a J, K, L & N frame. I used to have an X frame and while it would have been nice to keep for posterity, I don't really regret trading it off.

Anyone know if there's any truth to the Smith 327 frames being heat treated to be stronger than their lower pressure counterparts?

I ended up finding brass at Grafs, I'm all set up now after waiting 10 days for my background check.... :\ Can't wait to try this caliber on for size. Planning on trying loads with AA9, 100gr XTPs & Federal small rifle primers.

Anyone know if the HKS speedloaders for the Ruger 327 fit the Smith? It's not called out in the product description.

That's an HKS #32-J Speedloader in my earlier post's 632 Pro picture and it works fine. It was left over from my 4" .32 H&RM SP101 days some years back.

Range report! Got to put some lead down range today. It was 22° out so I didn't stay out too long :)

First the Federal 85gr Hydrashocks. They were definitely lower blast & recoil. Next the American Eagle 85gr loads. Much more blasty. Finally the American Eagle 100gr loads. They felt a little more stout than the 85gr version, but I expected them to be a lot more stout. The primers in the 100gr loads were more flattened than I would like to see however none of the brass had any extraction difficulties. I don't think I'll shoot these when it's cooking hot outside..

All that said, none were especially accurate for me. I'm looking forward to handloads. I'd also like to try the Gold Dots if I can ever find any.

I wouldn't have let that one get away, either.
Try some Buffalo Bore ammo in it. Basically a good 7.62x25 Tokarev load in a revolver.

I'm glad to hear that .32 ACP can be used in .327/.32H&R guns. I have a Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R that I'd like to shoot more often than the current ammo prices and availability allow.
I can usually find .32 ACP a lot easier and cheaper than .332 H&R.
Yes, I have dies for .32 H&R. I also have .32 S&WL brass, Honady .32 wadcutters and HPs. I really need to reload more.
The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook lists a .32 S&WL hollowpoint load moving out at 1,100 fps. Pretty damned respectable, if I do say so myself. That's .32 H&R velocity.
Guess I need to get a couple of custom HP molds in .32 cal. I'm thinking 85 and 115 grain, or 100 and 115 grain.

Look at these two loads for your gun. Certainly, nothing to laugh at.

I've been ignoring this thread because my LGS has a really nice Taurus 741? in 32 Mag that I've been ignoring for weeks. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere, even though it's tagged at less than $300.00. Nice looking gun, with a 4" barrel, about J frame size. It's got nice looking wooden grips of the style they used back in the early 90's.

I might have to look at that thing more seriously next time I go in. Maybe someone will buy it before then and I won't have to. :D

For under $300 I'd snag it, if nothing else it's a gun you can shoot 5 calibers in. Try that with a bottom feeeder!

I'm real happy with the Smith overall. There is one issue, the hammer has a little lateral movement & if it floats left it hangs up on a notch in the frame. I think a file to the corner in question will solve this. Also, if I had my druthers I'd chop off the port & re-crown it but that's pretty low priority. From such a small gun the port does produce a little powder back to the face.

My LGS had a blue Taurus .32 H&R for sale that I wanted. It sat in their cabinet for a few years, because they wouldn't price it reasonably.
$450 for a nice condition used Taurus, in a low demand caliber, was way too much. It was more than the gun sold for brand new. A lot more.
Bear in mind, I'm a Taurus fan, and a .32 fan. Not enough of a fan of either, to bend over like that.
They also had a nice FWB 300B that they'd broken and had to send out for repairs.
$350-$400 was a good going price at the time.
They had it priced at $700, to recoup the money THEY had to spend because THEIR idiot employees broke it by dry firing it.
Funny thing is, that store had given me some of the best deals I've ever gotten. Usually, on something they knew nothing about.

For under 300 bux, I'd probably snag it.
