I finally did. (UT)
I watched this video yesterday (
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JDglpt8hpyg), and I liked how Sturmgewhre (who I know posts on here at times) provided some resources in the video info. That link to
http://congress.org was a great resource. The video itself was good too, though very geared to shooters (so I wouldn't share it with friends who aren't into shooting).
I'm working on gathering resources like that link that I can share with friends and family who are like me: interested in writing and helping out, but not too anxious to spend too much time reading stuff and writing stuff).
I absolutely loved this blog post that I'm sure many of you have read:
http://larrycorreia.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/an-opinion-on-gun-control/
However, it is pretty long (but not long-winded), it is just long because it is full of information. In this world of sound bites, social media, and mobile users, I don't know how many people are willing to read that long of a post. I wish someone could take his info and create 4-5 videos, each 3-5 minutes long and each on one subject he covers. It could be done documentary style, and I think it could be powerful way to get the message to the younger crowd.
Anyway, I think we need to not just guilt others into doing this, we need to follow Sturmgewhre's example and do a two pronged strategy:
1) Inform and motivate
2) Make it as easy as possible by offering resources
One more thing, I may be making a poor assumption, but I doubt that our politicians really need a dissertation on why we think what we think, don't they just count our letters as one more in "slot B"? So you or your friends (who you encourage to act) probably don't need to fret over writing an amazing epistle, you can probably simply say "I OPPOSE any additional gun control."
You can probably also include a few reasons, but my thinking is that you don't have to be eloquent or list a ton of facts, right? Just say that you oppose it and you want the politician to echo that. Anyway, I thought that if that is an ok strategy, then more of us might write (if we don't have to put much more effort into it than just saying you oppose any legislation).
Edited because my app kindly sent the post before I was done.
