Fellow 2A Marylanders,

Mike Hough, from Sen. Mooney's office and Jared from Don Dwyer's office asked me to get an estimate of who plans to testify next week. On Tuesday, March 16th at 1:00, we have the House hearings, including the House AWB, and on Wednesday, March 17th, we have the Senate hearing, which includes the SB 1-37, "shall issue."

Most of us will be hard pressed to attend both. Mike mentioned Sen. Mooney would like to have at least a dozen or so show up in support of his shall issue bill. Alex and his co-sponsors certainly deserve our support. Jared mentioned Del. Dwyer would like as many as we can get to bury the gun ban, and I'd like to bury it too. I'm going to try to do both, but it won't be easy. I don't know what else to say, other than do whatever you can. On Feb. 10th, 200 gun owners made a statement, and the legislature took notice, particularly swing voters like Brochin and Gianetti.

I'd like to bury this gun ban for good, but I can guarantee you we'll see gun control introduced next year too. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

Please contact myself, Mike, or Jared. Thanks.

Which one to attend?

I was planning on attending both, but I may have to choose.

I first thought I would go to the House hearing, but now think the Senate hearing would need more bodies and advocates. The House hearing will have the anti-gun-ban crowd, and even VCDL people testifying on the fair-issue bill. I think the Senate fair-issue hearing needs the people.

You can count my head for the 16th. I see it is last on the agenda again. Does this mean I can stay out with the kids during the first part and come in after the break (if there is one)? This will be alot easier for me if that is the case.

Holy crap, gun vaults for regulated fire arms and such. I cant make it, im working that day, but damn, I hope most people remember whats happening that day and how important this is. I remember the huge thread at arfcom.

I'll be there on the 16th, but I seriously doubt I'll be able to attend on the 17th.

We really do need to pack the place again in opposition to the AWB.

Wear your red "Gun Owners Vote" badges if you still have them.

There's a few other great bills being read on the 16th; most notably the bill to repeal the integral safety lock law.

Cliff and Chris:

Fantastic!

:D

Be sure to introduce yourself. I'm a tall guy with short cropped hair, light goatee, and I'll be wearing a dark gray/almost black suit. I'm 34, but people never seem to guess my age correctly.

See you there.

Getting off to a good start. I know Cliff emailed Steve. If the rest of you havn't, please do. He won't put you on any lists unless you ask to be.

I plan on being there the 16th. If I can get a project re-scheduled I'll try and make it the 17th also.

6'2" ~225 white, 52, brown/grey hair with mustache and goatee.

I know who you are now Spot, didn't figure it out until too late last time.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Thanks for letting me know to e-mail Steve. I did that today and got a phone call reply very quickly. I invited him to THR so if you are reading this, Steve, welcome! :D

I had the pleasure of meeting some of you back on Feb. 10. For those of you that I didn’t meet, I’ll be the black guy wearing glasses and a beard, with a perpetually pissed off expression on my face.:)

Would somebody be able to post up exactly where we need to meet next week on the 16th and 17th. I believe it was posted up in a previous thread, just can't find it. Looks like we may have some folks show up this time that didn't show up on Feb. 10. No update on the AGC site.

Thank you

Thank you everyone.

Thanks to MikeK for posting this, the gun girl for preparing great testimony and promising to bring the kids, and Cliff for getting mad enough to come out again. For security reasons, I can only identify myself as a gun owning central committee member from Maryland's 18th district. I hope you all understand. :)

NoMoRINOs, welcome to the highroad. If your at the hearings next week, introduce yourself,if for the above stated reasons you can't ,hope to see you there anyway.;)

Cliff - Lowe Office Bldg. 84 College Ave. Judicial Proceedings Committee Room for the hearings on the 16th. The shuttle bus driver should know where it is.

Welcome NoMoRinos. The gun forums here are interesting too.

Unless I get a last minute job interview I'll be there for one of the two days, but at this point all my "free" time goes to finding a job so I can't take the time to prepare something to say so I'll just be there lending my moral support to the rest of you. I'll be a face in the crowd wearing the NRA button so it won't be a total waste even if I don't testify.

Send some more emails......we know it helps. Let them know you oppose SB 925 and SB 927.

This is from an email I received last week:

Subject: Senate Rules Committee - SB 925 & SB 927
Importance: High

Senator Robert Garagiola's efforts to get a favorable vote on SB 288 Assault Weapons Ban of 2004 in his own committee have failed.

Now Senator Garagiola is attempting to circumvent the committee system by playing musical chairs with phony bills in the hope that some committee will give at least one bill a favorable report. Once that bill hits the Senate floor, he will try to add SB 288 as an amendment.

This tactic not only makes a mockery of the committee system, it shows Senator Garagiola's utter contempt and lack of respect for the members of his own committee, his committee chairman, as well as the committee system as a whole.

The first hurdle is the Senate Rules Committee which due to the late filing of SB 925 & SB 927, must decide whether or not to allow the bills to move to committee.

Many of the members of the Senate Rules Committee also serve on either the Budget and Taxation Committee or the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee. They need to hear from you today! Tell them to reject SB 925 and SB 927.

Chris - Park in the Navy stadium lot. Well marked and right off a Rte. 50 exit. The shuttle bus runs ~ every 20 minutes. Parking is $4 and the shuttle was free in Feb.

I had a map in PDF format, but can't seem to locate it. If it's a nice day, it would be a pleasant walk from the lot to the hearings.

You're not one of Leah Barrett's neighbors are you?

I was just reading up on information for testifying but I was a bit confused about what all it entails. After I say what I am going to say, then what? The information I was reading says the legislators can then ask you questions. Is this true? I just want to know ahead of time if it is so I can be more prepared for that and not caught off guard.

I'll be there with bells on!

And a suit! I will be getting there kinda early for the press conference that Kenn Blanchard's doing at 8:30. I don't have any stickers or buttons to identify myself as with THR but I will be wearing a navy blue suit. Haven't worn a suit in over 10 years but I will wear one for the funeral of "may" issue and the birth of "shall" issue in MD. I am a black guy about 5'11" 300lbs and more often than not, smiling!

More info on directions to Annapolis for 3/16 & 3/17 with parking details. Hope this helps.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are directions for parking and getting to the Lowe office
building on the 16th,and the Miller office building on the 17th.

We need your presence at the hearing in the House of Delegates for
the gun bills on the House side. The hearing will be held at 1:00
p.m.
on Tuesday, March 16th, and chief among the anti-gun measures is
the so-called "assault weapon" ban. As it is written, it could make
every semi-automatic firearm you own illegal. Come join us in
Annapolis
and express your displeasure.

You must sign in early if you want to testify. If you do testify,
you do not
need to say a lot, but please tell all of the committee members where
you are from and that you are not being paid to testify.

You can reach the hearings by taking U.S. 50 East to Rowe Boulevard
exiting to the south (bearing right). Parking is available at the
U.S.
Naval Academy Stadium Lot that you will see on your right around the
second light you come to. Parking there is $4.00. The Annapolis
Shuttle comes by frequently. There is (currently) no charge for the
Shuttle.
It will drop you off in front of the Legislative Services Building
after passing
the Visitor Center and circling the Church (on Church Circle).
Across the
street from the stop is the House Office Building. Inside the
entrance
(facing the Senate buildings), you will go to the hearin room on the
first
right.

Do not bring any pocket knives with you. You will need to pass
through
a metal detector, and may want all of your keys, change, and other
metal objects all in one bag to place in a tray.

For more information, hearings for the House Judiciary Committee
(JUD)
can be browsed at:
