I've loaded some 69G SMK with 24g of H4895 seated at 2.235. This is the suggested starting load on the Hodgdon site. Each charge is weighed. I haven't chronographed these loads but they 'feel' hot shot out of a 16" carbine AR. Granted, I've really only shot a bunch of 55g loads so I may just be surprised by the recoil impulse of a 69g bullet.

Anyone have any experience with this load? Is it a safe starting point? Brass is LC 08 with a Winchester primer.

I have the same load with a 69gr Nosler HPBT that is waiting to be tested. I loaded 23.5,24.0, and 24.5 to test and chrono. It will be two weeks before I'm able to and I will try to remember to post the results here if no one else comes along to help. If not PM me and I'll give you what I came up with. I will be keeping a close eye on them as the 24.5 loads were slightly compressed.

That's a pretty std load in HP competition for those who still shoot the 69s.

Because the 77s are quite useable at 600 and because they aren't much more in price than 69s, a lot of guys just load 77s across the board with more using them at 200 and 300 than have switched for 600.

Some 75gr Hornady HPBT as well, altho I think the consensus is that Nosler CCs or Sierra SMK 77s are slightly superior. I don't have a lot of experience with the non-VLD Bergers - but they're pricey anyway and Nos or SMKs will get the job done.
