1911 suggestions

I have a Kimber Custom TLE/RL II
I have never tuned or tinkered with a 1911 before, I have only shot them stock.
What are the most common upgrades and what would be a good place to start in making this weapon fast and reliable for IDPA style shooting. I'm not looking to split hairs just be quick and keep killzone tight groups.

Have you been to an IDPA match? If not, go... walk around, talk to people, ask them about what they've done with their 1911s in the class you intend to shoot.

If you are new to IDPA, the most important things are...

1. You listen to the course safety officer and follow all directions. If you're not sure, ask until you are sure.
2. Your gun goes bang 100% of the time with all the magazines and ammo you use.

After a few matches, you'll have a better understanding of what you are happy with and what you need to change.

Thanks for the quick reply, I don't intend on competing any time soon. It is a possibility in the future. (I have a friend that shoots them every time they are within a 3 hour drive) I can ask him what he thinks but he shoot a SW MP9

You shouldn't have to do anything to the gun mentioned. Might want to stock up on some Chip McCormick mags.
