Reloading Spreadsheets

How are you arriving at the FtLb number?
If we know the Velocity (Bullet Speed) and we know the Mass (Bullet Weight) we can calculate the bullet energy.

Velocity Squared (expressed in FPS) * Bullet Weight (expressed in grains) / 450,240 = Energy (expressed in Lb Ft.).

So if doing it in a spread sheet using Excel for example we can just let Excel do the math for us.

If Column A is bullet weight in grains, Column B is Muzzle Velocity in FPS and we want to see the Energy in Column C the formula used in column C would look like this:

=(B2)^2*(A2)/450240

The above would hold true for A2 and B2 Cells being used.

Old school here too!! Besides, computers can be frustrating :banghead: and it may not be a good idea for me to be too close to a loaded firearm while fighting with the computer!!

One thing that is nice about spreadsheets is I do my log on a file on Dropbox so it's always available to me. This came in handy when I went to the gun show and they were out of every powder I went to buy, so I looked up my reloading log, and started looking through loads for powder that they did have and I was able to walk away with something I knew had worked in the past.

I must be a loose, unsafe reloader! I look at a few books...look at suggestions for accurate loads via internet...load a 100 that seem popular...try em' out! I put little labels off of a thermal label machine and print the following...

124g Hdy FMJ 4.0g ViHt N320 1,135 OCL CSP
200g LSWC 4.3g Bullseye 1.250 CCLP

I stick em' on the box...shoot em'...and if I like em' I'll keep that box and reload that load. f they suck...I rip the label off and stick it on a cardboard poster board pinned to the wall over work bench...under... "BAD LOAD"

I use asst. brass..checking for split cases..and reload them continuously until a case cracks or looks funky. I'm a range junkie looking for a score of loose brass! I feel like I hit the lottery when someone shoots a ton and says that I can have it! I do NOT sort brass on a handgun.
I'm NOT anal or excited about keeping accurate records on how many times I use a piece of brass...velocity...or recoil. If it's accurate on paper..it's a keeper.

I will say...I don't stretch the load out to maximum. I'm a bit queasy about that. I stay in the middle and go from there. Rarely do I push the limits.

I am a clean freak though and have a well organized reloading bench!! :D

I feel guilty cuz' I don't! You all are making me feel inferior.
