I am in the market for another 22cal. rifle. I looked online at the cz455 and like the different calibers you can get with one receiver. I need some advice on the savage rifles. I will be using it for target shooting ( 50 to 100 yds.)
Thanks for any help

Cz in a 452 if you can find one. The 455 is fine by all means, but the Lux, and ultra Lux have tangent sights, that are pretty nifty.

Cz452 IF you can find one. Either the varmint or silloutte models are REAL NICE if you want to mount a scope.

Cz.....I have a two 452 Trainers, a Full Stock, an Ultra Lux and a 455 American. I can find no fault in them.

Best is to shoulder and dry fire both at the LGS before deciding. Don't go by an internet vote.

I agree with YZ. Shoulder and fire both...... then buy the CZ. Savage may have good accuracy, but CZ has the accuracy plus fit and finish. I have 4, 452's in various configurations and a 455. The 455 is more accurate but I have replaced the factory barrel with a Lilja, and it is mounted in a BR stock.

Dry firing tells you little about a rifle intended for targets. It is best to shoot both. After that, it is, a good move to actually talk to people with experience with the guns in question.

I shoot sporter benchrest locally. We have Savage and CZ shooters. The CZs usually are top finishers.

I am also going with the CZ following. I have a handful of 452's and a 455. Although the 455 is a good gun, it was the last in, so it will be the first out to fund another project I am getting ready for. Don't want to really sell, but am ok with it since I know it can easily be replaced down the road.

Definitely CZ for me. A friend of mine has the 452 American and it is a sweet looking, well built, and very accurate .22 rifle.

I can give a semi-good comparison between the two.

My Savage is a MkII BV, with the laminated stock and heavy barrel.

My CZ is a 452 Varmint in 22wmr.

Both have Weaver rimfire scopes mounted.

So, it's a little bit of an apples/oranges situation, but there are some things I can compare.

The overall craftsmanship and quality vibe go to the CZ. Very nice wood and the metalwork is top notch. Looks and feels like a nice centerfire rifle.

The Savage is a really accurate shooter. LOVE the accutrigger.

I think if I was going to be primarily using it for target shooting, I'd go with the Savage. But don't bother with the plastic stock - definitely get the laminated. It's available with a thumbhole if that interests you. Mine is the standard and it suits me fine.

We need a definition of what the OP is calling targets and some kind of gauge when people report their rifles as being accurate.

50 yards. First 4 are groups, the last 15 single shots

I think it is capable of better but I don't know if I can do it.:)

I have a CZ 452 Varmint. With the right ammo it does clover leafs at 25yds and still does dime sized groups at 50 yds. With bulk ammo its slightly more. When I am on my game and not fighting the constant SW Idaho wind I can do just as you see above.

Feels like a "big" rifle, wood is usually superb, fit and finish dont say cheap .22. Any extra cash you pay over a savage is worth it.
And I like Savage, have one i 6.5 Creedmoor. Its not to say the savage is not good. They are good and accurate, its just the cz is a step above. Like going from a Weatherby Vanguard to a MK V.

Only down side is the trigger has some creep but with a $20 trigger kits it can be fixed. I have yet to do that.

had a cz 452 varmint with rifle basic trigger, harris bipod and 16x scope. i could ding dime at 100yds. great for bench/target, to heavy for walk/stalk hunting. regretted selling it, but had to far to travel to shoot. it was the cleanest, prettiest little rifle with a big rifle feel---do it-you won't regret it.

cz.

i had a savage and they are nice guns. i sold mine to a friend and bought a cz 455 varmint. i use mine for 50-150yd shooting primarily, but have had it out as far as 300yd. it's a joy to shoot....now if i could land a .17hmr bbl.

No need to spend 20 bucks on anybody's kit to get rid of the creep. A simple tube shim made from a section of radio antenna is all you need to take out the creep. I have done a pile of them....I carried my new Ultra Lux home last week and did my trigger job in about 30 minutes.

Having owned both, and selling the lack-luster CZ, I say Savage.

CZ..... My CZ 17 hmr 452 with a 2x7 scope blows the doors off of my 17 hmr Savage varmint with a 6x24 AO scope when it comes to accuracy.

The Savage isn't even in the same league when it comes to fit and finish.

CPE,
These targets were with the Lilja barrel. I haven't been able to get a good selection of ammo to find out what it really likes.
