Hey All,
Picked up this Ruger Vaquero in 45LC.
It is LNIB, and I doubt it has ever been fired (outside of factory function test)

A Ruger employee is selling off his collection to the LGS (Ruger factory is 15 miles away from here) and I got lucky with this one!

The odd thing about this revolver, the "billboard" warning is UNDER the barrel, like the NEW Vaquero, but this is an OLD Vaquero (I know, I know, there is no such thing as "old" and "new" Vaquero...but you know what I mean!)

Grips are on order from Eagle Grips, and better pics and range report to follow soon.

Grips are from Eagle Grips.
I've had their grips on several revolvers in the past, and always had great luck.
They make a gunfighter grip that is thin and fits the hand nicely.
Here is a pic of that grip on my 44 Special Ruger (sold it last year)

will it handle the "hot loads"....I require my Rugers to handle the plus P loads....anyway, neat firearm.
Yes, this is the "old" Vaquero, with the beefier frame, that will handle "hot" loads.
I will keep my handloads in the mild-ish range though.....I don't love super booming loads!

It's possible the barrel has been replaced at the factory. A friend of mine had an older .44 Magnum Vaquero with an improperly installed barrel. Ruger replaced it with a new one made up from a barrel blank because they no longer had that barrel in stock. When he got it back he noticed that the new barrel had the billboard warning markings on the bottom of the barrel.

I admit, I am jealous.
After shooting an Uberti cowboy action 45, I very much want a Vaquero 5.5".

Very nice gun. Good luck and have fun!

Judging by the grips and warning, I'm wonder if it wasn't a more recent cleanup run to use up the old frames. Pretty cool!

Yes sir,
From what I have gathered from talking to others, it probably IS a "clean up" run, made from some left over "old" Vaquero frames.
It is dated from after the switch to the "new" Vaquero, so perhaps the maching was set up to do "under barrel" warnings?
Either way, I just shot this thing today, and I LOVE it!
Super crisp trigger, if a bit heavy.
Plenty accurate, with my first two cylinders (from 7 yds) having most shots touching on the paper.
Love the feel of 45 Colt recoil...not snappy, but just....solid and predictable.
Thumper, I guess you could call it!

the last year that the made the original Vaquero all the warning labels were on the bottom of the barrels. i know the last 2 consecutive sets i bought before Ruger quit making them were this way. the serial number is cool.

Then your sixgun is probably even better than the original Vaqueros. Ruger has made some mark-ed improvements in their single actions, starting in 2005.

No they weren't. When Ruger first introduced the New Vaquero in 2005 the warning labels were on the side, as always. They didn't change them to the bottom until a few years later. Any Vaquero with the warning on the bottom was produced after they were discontinued in 2004/5.

It was when Ruger moved the Warning to the bottom of the barrel that I took more interest in them....Can't help it, aesthetics are important to me when it comes to single action revolvers.

I have had both a 44 Special Sheriff (New Vaquero that was marked...Vaquero) and a 45ACP Birdshead short barreled model....both of those guns had the Warning on the bottom of barrel.

So, when I spotted this beauty, I was super happy.
Now that I have fired it at the range....I am SUPER happy!
