copper sulfate dosent play nice with steel, would the black powder even get hot enough to burn it? If anything magnesium sulfate would be less harmful and will give you a white flame, table salt will give you a sun yellow flame. If it will get hot enough to burn it off, without causing any damage to your guns (I know nothing about muzzle loaders or black powder) I doubt it would color the smoke tho, it dosent on camp fires or from a blow torch.

Getting old has a way of eroding the creative process. An old guy will discount doing something different because experience tells him it shouldn't work.
For instance I found out when I was twelve and out of BB's that I could load and shoot earthworms out of my Daisy.

Oh man, I shot matches too! My aunt is a nurse, I used to have her get me these wooden tipped cotton swabs that were really long and only had cotton on once side. I'd stick them in my old Daisy with one end sharpened and shoot the fruit from our two pear trees! :D

I was taught that BB gun fights were wrong too. We had those airsoft guns though, I got a lot of welts from that! I don't play airsoft anymore, too painful!

Not to get too off topic, but for the longest time I wanted to build a propane powered .22. Sort of like a potato cannon, but with a smaller bore. I don't know why, but the idea of that just seems so appealing to me!

Has anyone notice the smoke from Duplex Loads,it is pale brown as opposed to The white smoke of Black Powder.

Here is 14 grs Swiss. Black Powder is kind of white. This is me and the daughter
up at the Nationals at Friendship.

Blue flames? Green flames? We're dealing with blackpowder guns to put lead into targets, not special effects for circuses or magic acts.

Yeah, I'm a curmudgeon.
Yes, but you're interested! Otherwise, as a mod, you would've closed this. I think someone's inner child is speaking out! :D
