I looked in the stickys and did a brief search in the rifle forum. I don't come up with the generally accepted and well thought of speedloader for the 5.56 AR magazines. Searching online shows models that cover the entire top of the magazine and use a plunger to push down the ammo. I also see something like a stripper clip that mounts above the magazine for speedloading. What works best for you and why?

Most important is "What Works Well Without Problems?"

Stripper clips with guides work the best for me. I don't have anything else but that. When I'm not shooting, I'll load up a bunch of stripper clips for the next outing. I recently purchased an UpLula for pistol mags and it makes loading super easy. I'll probably pick up one for AR type magazines after Christmas.

Stripper clips for me. Became a convert last year when I bought a couple of those cans of Federal M855. Couldn't walk into a gun shop without tripping of a 420 rd can. Came with the little guide tool and every round was preloaded on clips.

I have used strippers for a long time and they're great, but I'm phasing them out in lieu of the MagLULA, at least for range ammo. Nothing beats strippers for easy portability though. The problem for me is the spoons that you slip on the magazine and insert the stripper into. They were not designed to be used over and over, and after several years they haven't worn well. They need to be bent and tweaked frequently to prevent the stripper from entering the magazine. I reload all my .223 so repeated use of strippers/spoons has not worked that great. If I bought cans of strip loaded ammo they would be just fine. The LULA's are fast enough for the range, or you could load the mags at home too. My self defense ammo usually stays in the mags and the excess lives in a bandolier on strippers with a spoon.

Where the LULA's really shine for me is the one for my M1A. Makes life easy. My girlfriend really like the one for pistol as well.

Then there is the StripLULA:

I use the LULA's also. mine is the one the make for stripper clips and you don't even need the strippers clips. I had a race with my son loading mags. Me using the LULA and him using the stripper clip with guide. I won each and everytime. I won't be with out it plus it's much easier on the fingers.

Mag-Lula for me as well. They are fast! I picked up 2 at a gun show a while back and now they are the only speed loader I will use!

I asked the same question a few years back, got the same answers, ordered one, and wow, everyone was right, they're great.

If you want something easy on the fingers, the Mag Lula would be hard to beat.

Another vote for mag lula. In 3 gun matches with lots of stages, this loader really saves your fingers. They are good for loading and unloading.

Strippers are great, but you can't lose your thumb, and it won't break - loading magazines anyway. I load up my mags the day before a shoot. Old school is best IMO. Build up that thumb and hand muscle, practice=muscle memory... and it's fast.
