local store got 3 cases of blazer in today. By random chance, I was in the store browsing the ammo isle when they opened the first case. While standing in line with my single box limit, others noticed what I was carrying. As I watched the phone frenzy begin as the buddy network reached out for what was soon to be a mad rush on them:

Something occurred to me - Maybe the alchemists have finally pulled their final trump card.

They may have never actually transmuted lead into gold - but, considering the 22 situation; it sure seems like they've found a way to make lead as valuable as gold!


It might be worth an experiment. Set out 2 stacks, one of $20 gold coins, the other of $20 boxes of 22.... which one disappears first.
 
I saw .22lr at my lwm yesterday. I had not seen it in a long time. They also had 9,.380, 40,45, and just about everything. Maybe the shortage is easing?
 
$20 gold coins haven't been worth $20 for quite some time. Its over $1200 per oz.

If a quarter (roughly 0.2 oz) was made of gold it would be worth around $250 (this is converted by weight not volume).
 
Store was Fleet farm. sold out 3 cases in 30 mins after I left.

I know a $20 gold coin is crazy high. perhaps it would have been better to say a stack of gold pieces worth $20 each.
 
A gold piece worth $20 would weigh .016 ounces :D

A silver dollar, on the other hand, is currently worth between $20-24 if that helps your thought experiment.
 
My local FleetFarm also had a few dozen boxes of Blazer 22. I wasnt out looking for it, just browsing the firearm secrion like I do on every trip to FleetFarm. They must have just put it out. The shelf was full and almost nobody around. I grabbed one box, per the one box limit. As I headed on my way I noticed a man and his son coersing the man behind counter to let then buy more. They appeared to know each other well. I didnt stick around long enough to find out what they made off with.
 
And this is why I just purchased a .22 caliber air rifle. Ammo is cheap and plentiful. Still gets the job done for the intended purpose, and I don't have to consume the .22lr ammo that I have on hand.
 
I have several boxes of .22 that I would gladly trade for $20.00 gold pieces.
