I recently bought a range officer from a local shop for $762. It had everything I was looking for in a 1911, trigger, hammer, match grade barrel, beaver tail. But as I'm sure most of you know it's missing some of the cosmetic frills found on high end 1911's.

I finally got to the range with it the other day and after reading how Springfield and a couple online magazines tout the accuracy, I was still blown away. The trigger is phenomenal and obviously the match grade barrel is for real.

That's 6 shots @ 15 feet.

That's 7 shots @ 21 feet.

Both were blazer brass 230 grain. Even though I am an admitted 40 cal fanboy, this gun has quickly made it's way toward the top of my favorites list. But I suppose hitting what you aim at makes you like a gun lol.

If you're even considering a range officer, do it.

I once tuned-up a LW Commander for a guy, and it delivered 1" at 50 ft, 5 shots, weaver. I tried real hard to buy it, should never have let him see me print those groups. :) I swaged open the bushing to fit the slide more tightly, built up the barrel hood a bit (tig welder) and silver-brazed a shim into the front locking lug recess on the barrel, with heat control past in the bore to prevent scaling.

Congrats. They are one of the best shooting pistols I have shot. To me, their is cheap for their accuracy.

A buddy got one recently (in .45ACP) and took it to the range for the 1st time with me a few weeks ago. Not a beautiful gun, but a dang good shooter. The trigger was not spectacular, but I think it will break in nicely. It had one failure to go into battery after about 200 rounds, but we'll forgive that, since the pistol was pretty dirty after shooting lots of WWB and not fully broken-in.

All-in-all, it's definitely one of the nicer sub-$1000 1911s out there.

Did you alter the front sight. That is the only thing that my old eyes don't like. Perhaps a night sight or a hi viz, what did you do?

I didn't do anything to it but load it and shoot it. I'm gonna be honest I didn't even field strip and clean it first I just tried it out. It ate up the blazer with no trouble.

I agree I didn't like the sights in the gun shop, I would prefer 3 dots but they seem to work for target shooting.

Are you going to carry it occasionally, or strictly a range gun? That was why I was looking at the Operator, I figured I might carry it, or keep it for range and nightstand duty, even though I know I probably won't, or all these small carry guns I bought over the years would be a waste of money. It's between Kimber and Springfield, the Colt isn't ringing any bells for me for the money.
My local gun store happens to be running a sale on this one in 45, for 725, which he never does, but it is this week only.

The gun may be good but I would give yourself some credit. Good shootin'

Very nice pistol for the price and your targets indicate good accuracy. Enjoy!

I recently moved to a town with a huge army base, so the exercising of open carry is way more common here. So if I do carry it, it'll likely be open not concealed.

Obviously I like mine, but Kimber does make a quality 1911, I just can't get over how well this thing shoots. I'd be surprised if another out of the box 1911 shoots this good for ~$750. And I rather like the looks, it maintains some of the classic appeal of the 1911.

If you can get one for $725 you will not regret it.

Thanks 340PD!

BYJO4 I plan to do just that!

I will drive to a gun show in Melbourne this weekend and if I don't see anything that really knocks me out, I will buy the RO. Like you said, you can't really get hurt. He had the Kimber in 10 also, but 10 is hard to get other than online, and I don't want to stock another caliber, Keep it simple. 9, 45, 223, and 12 gauge. There is a AR pistol that is just gorgeous, and has been on slickguns and sells out in 10 minutes every time, it's a Diamondback, "I think" Tan and BLK with a very cool color combination that is well done. But again what am I going to use it for. The gun is available sometimes in the 7's and as high as in the 9's. So if I see the sucker closer to the low end, it's worth a shot.
It would look super nice all decked out with an Eotech on it, and a suppressor down the road.

Yeah I feel lucky I got my PLR-16 when I did. I paid $399, from what I've been told they're hard to find now. Sorta useless. Sorta frickin awesome. Lol
