Hello All,
Does anyone have experience with Hornady GMX 50 gr load with AA 2230 (AKA Ramshot Xterminator) for 223 Remington? I want to use it in my TC Encore PH with 17" barrel (1-12" twist). CCI Primer and Rem/Hornady/Lapua case.

Neither Hornady nor WP publish any loads for this bullet.

Thanks.

From Hornady.

So, go ahead and use Western Powders load data for the 50gr Hornady Conventional bullets, just start low and work up.

Thanks. I read the same thing. So I called Hornady Tech Support. The person answering the phone warned me against doing that. I told him what their site said. And he pointed me to their loading manual - which I have. The 50 gr GMX has a different page than the other 50 gr bullets. The 5 powders that match between the two pages have wildly varying max charges and speeds. The only powder that has the same max is Power Pro Varmint at 27.2 gr. But the listed speed is 100 FPS less for the GMX. The same is true of their 55 gr GMX vs other 55 gr bullets. I regularly shoot the 50 gr VMax loaded on top of AA 2230 with great accuracy and consistency in all my 223s (two ARs, two bolts and a TC).

So, who has real world experience with 50 gr GMX and AA 2230?

Even if someone here worked up a load for this powder/bullet combo you would still have to do a load work-up for yourself with Your rifle.

If I were going to load this powder/bullet combo. I would Start with the Minimum charge according to Ramshot (22.1gr) and work up, using a Chrony.
