Does anyone have the ability to provide side by side pictures of these 2 guns?

I am needing to carry something at the appendix position, as the weather gets nicer, and am needing to validate if a new purchase of a holster for the SIG is needed, or a purchase of an XDS is a better and more comfortable route.

Thanks

Just to clarify the original post: I assume he's talking about the SIG 1911 Compact, which is in a CCO format (Commander-length slide on an Officer frame).

So a picture of an XDS next to any brand of 1911 CCO will work for comparison, not just that specific model by SIG.

It might take awhile until someone who has both an XDS and a CCO takes a pic and uploads it for you. In the meantime, I did a Google search and came up with this:

There are two pictures with a Kimber Ultra Carry II next to an XDS. The Kimber in those pictures has a shorter slide than your SIG 1911 Compact, but otherwise it's the same size.

While my CCW 1911 isn't a CCO format, it does have a 4" Slide (Springfield Loaded Champion). I also have an XDS 45 for comparison.

Over the years I have carried this 4" 1911as my primary CCW. In that time I never quite got to the point where the gun was unobtrusive in my daily routine. I am constantly aware of it's presence (in a bad way) or limited in mobility due to the size/length of the holster. I have tried a bunch of holsters with limited success. I really want to keep carrying the 1911 but there is a time to say that this particular configuration does not work for me.

The XDS on the other hand seems to be a near perfect CCW gun. Since switching to it, I don't feel the holster digging me getting in and out of the car (same holster design as the 1911). The shorter grip also does not print at all.
Granted, you are giving up 1 shot over the officer frame 1911 but that is also why you get the shorter grip. An extra mag in the pocket solves that issue pretty quickly.

Everybody is different and what works for me may not work for you, but there is no doubt the XDS is easier to conceal based on the fact that it is a smaller gun.

Excuse the crappy cell phone pic.

Id post pics of my XDs next to my compact 1911, but my XDs is back at Springfield again. Spends more time there than here. This time they've had it for 2 weeks as of tomorrow and still haven't told me what's wrong with it.

IMHO there's no comparison between a reputable 1911 of any size and that plastic hunk of junk.

Wow, I'm surprised and sorry you got a bad XD handloader357. I hope they get you taken care of.

Between myself, family members, and friends, I have personal first hand range time with the XD's, XDM's, and XDsc's, in various chamberings also. Off the top of my head, there are at least 10 of them between us, none have failed or had problems. I don't think any have had less than 2k-3k of full tilt jacketed reloads run through each of them. Not even any cycling issues.

As for size, I really like the way the it carries, though I'm primarily a revolver guy, I have carried mine, very comfortable with the shorter griped SC.

My experience has been the same as gamestalker's. My XD-s has been 100% reliable. It will feed and cycle everything from big "flying ashtray" hollow points to semi wadcutters, and is more than happy to even cycle spent cases, as long as I do the slide racking.

I would expect that lower powered loads might cause some issues, but anything in the full power range cycles with 100% reliability.

The XD-s certainly is not as pretty as a 1911, nor does it have the same charm, but it does serve it's purpose.
