I have always liked and enjoyed the pistols made by Zastava, especially the 3 different series based off the CZ99 pistol. I first tried the 2nd gen which was the CZ999 or the Charels Daley ZDA in 9mm, which was a great pistol. I then bought the 3rd gen that was called the CZ05 or EAA EZ 40. It also was a great gun for the money.

For some reason at that time my tastes had foolishly wanderd and I ended up selling or trading those 2 pistols.
Skip to a year ago, and I had realized I had sold some I should not have and went to remedy that. I first bought a EZ9 now imported by Arsenal, it has been a great bedside gun and is so equipped with a TRL-1 for that roll.
I realized the only generation of the pistol I had not owned was the original one, the CZ99. They are hard to find as they are seldomly imported any more except for some used military 9mm's and some Century Arms new CZ99's in 40.
I found an unissued, original Yugoslavian made CZ99 40 in a local shop for under $380. I put what I had down on it and just finished paying it off and picking it up yesterday.

I took it out for an initial short shooting session last night and was thouroughly impressed. It was well made and finished, not quite as well as the similar Sig Sauer it resembels. I liked the way it shot and recoil seemed light for caliber. Double action was good but nothing to rant about< but single action was great. It fed FMJ and HP perfect for the 100 rounds I put through it. All in all I am really liking it and am glad I found a 1st gen CZ99.

Pics to come later. Anyone else have one of these or have experience with them?

My Nephew bought one and we shot it here at my farm range a few months ago and I was quite impressed with quality of the pistol for $319 that he paid. It is made similar to a SIG P226. His is the CZ 999, which is the same gun.

Seems like a great gun for the money but I just can't warm up to DA/SA operation despite having a SIG p226 and Beretta 92 and a few others.

Good find. Now you need to find its cousin from South Africa, the TZ99

Like yourself I have some regrets and sold a German made Sig 226 some years ago wich of course you know is what the your pistol is cloned from . Since then I have come across several of the EZ line of pistols and was very impressed with there over all fit and finish ...nice guns really. WTS if I came across one at a good price I would snag it up ! Hey there's nothing wrong with a quality copy ... I'm sure you have a few if there's a 1911 in your safe . Congrats on your new purchase .

Good for you! What are the differences between the Zastava CZ99 and the CZ999? I have an M88a and had one of their rifles but sold it to a freind. The Zastavas are made on BRNO supplied machinery and still use the same type of steel that BRNO used for their guns, which was very good.

The difference that I read between the CZ 99 and CZ 999 is that the CZ 999 has a little smaller grip size. Other than that , they are the same pistol. The Serbian Army uses this pistol along with Serb police.. They are well made and the slide is milled from a solid block of steel. The Zastava guns -- AKs, pistols , rifles, and shotguns made in Serbia are well known for their quality.
