Neighbor dispute ended in flashbang/concussion grenade and then swat removal. This happened approx 100 yard from my house. I was in yard at the time and heard it go off. Made me think how do you S.W.A.T. guys (people) deal with it since you are so close? I would think even with ears on it still would be overwhelming on the senses for a bit in critical time.

It's like hearing a gunshot go off behind a wall. Nothing to worry about in the short term. Long term exposure, yeah, but how often do you think swat gets exposed to flash bangs?

One day in 2009, I heard a resounding boom that rattled the windows in my house, and went outside to investigate. It was around 3PM. My neighbor across the street had also come out, and we both looked to the west, the direction the sound had come from. A vehicle (silver SUV) was stopped at a cross street thirty yards or so to the west.

Suddenly, it accelerated and was met by several other vehicles at a house fifty yards to my east, passing us as it moved. The now-clearly-LEOs conducted a raid on the house there.

I can only surmise that the sound we heard was a percussion grenade detonating prematurely inside, or just outside, that first vehicle.

That had to hurt.

I have used quite a few flashbangs in training. With ear protection on and not looking at the flash, it isn't so bad. It is when a flashbang goes off 10 yards in front of your face, no ear protection, at night is a bummer.

Trained with them in the past...they are a blast:D. One time when playing night time OFOR, had on go off at my feet and was not wearing any hearing or eye protection. BIG flash, heat, and LOUD. My ears ringed for hours afterward:mad:
