Okay, a range forum could use a list of really long ranges, don't you think? The long range bug finally bit me. I'm from Pennsylvania and I don't know of a single range over 300 yards in that state. In Indiana, I was lucky to find one near me. So I thought maybe of a list of 1000 yard public ranges might be in order if you folks want to help put it together. Not adds, just a list of 1000+ yard ranges you know of, and what you know about them. I'll start. Please feel free post ones you know of and whether you've shot there.

The one I know of is:

Roanoke Indiana: Hillside Shooting Sports. I have shot at this one. Rifle backstops are at 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1000 yards. It is a pay range and you have to be a member and qualify with 2 MOA accuracy to shoot past 200. Benches are concrete. Has steel targets and places to hang, as well as a Gator for members hanging stuff beyond 200 yards.

Okay, I opened the two links from previous post. I've never shot at any of the following, but they seem to be either clubs or ranges with 1000 yard backstops in Pennsylvania. If anyone has shot either of these or has information, please feel free to update.

Trout Run, PA (zip 17771):
PA 1000 Yard Benchrest Club - This one seems to be a club. That would imply one must be a member to shoot.

Ridgeway, PA (Elk County)
Ridgeway Rifle Club - This one seems to be a club. That would imply one must be a member to shoot.

Very much doubt you'll find many public 1,000 yard ranges anywhere. A 1,000 yard range involves far more land than just the range itself. It also requires several miles of fall zone behind the back stop. Mind you, up here, there's no such thing as a public range and only the CF has 1,000 yard ranges and not many of them.

i live 4 miles from the above range in mifflin co.,its a good range out to 1000 yds. eastbank.

Gopher Rifle & Revolver club, Harris MN about an hour north of Minneapolis. Members only, except at matches. 1,000 yard range with firing points at 100,200,300,600,800 and 1,000 yards.

Jacob's plain gun club and battlefield. Greenville, Tx

Best place to shoot long range in the dfw area. Multiple targets on 4 shooting lanes out to 1100 yards. Long range is open to the public, but you must qualify to shoot.

Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association (ORSA) in Oak Ridge, TN has 1000 yard range and hosts competitions regularly. Private club range rather than public.

VX Marksmanship - Decateur TX (1 hour or so north of Dallas)
I hope to get a membership and group of courses from Santa Claus this year.
I talked to them on the phone. They seem like a top notch club.

etss in waxahachie is 600 annually.

tacpro is 200. I was a member there for many years, but with Jacob's being so close, I couldn't justify the 2.5 hours of drive time to and from.

jacobs is 300, but membership is not required.

All the above 1k ranges are local to the dfw area.

I can't find the annual membership fee's to VX anywhere.

It looks like they require that you take a number of shooting courses, then they decide if they want to invite you to become a member. They require that you pass a background check similar to buying a gun. I would like to proceed, but I will need to confirm pricing. I don't want to commit to a pricey distant club that I can only shoot a few times a year. Jacobs Plain is just too far away. Looks like a great place though.

pdd614,

Tacpro does have a 1000 yard range. Intermediate shooting points are available on this range. Membership is required on this long range only.

It also has 100 and 200, two 50 yarders, and a 25 yard range at the schoolhouse. Fee for these if you're not a member is now $20.

Check the link in my post above.

Colorado West Gun Club

Many long ranges out to 1,000....but a target gong set at 1,900 yards.

Home of the Billy Dixon blackpowder Sharps Rifle Shoot.
Fifty to join, annual $25.

Moxie, I know all about Tacpro. I became a member there way back in 2002, and kept shooting there until last year. Back when I joined, tacpro and ft. walters were the only game in dfw.

12 years later, I don't have to commute 5 hours for a range trip anymore. Jacobs is only 40 minutes or so each way. Not to mention, Jacob's has better facilities and trickier winds.

Just imagine traveling from Erath County to Collin county for a few hours of shooting. Gets old quick.
