Are there any good books on these, as the few I have seen seem to be well made and of the same quality of a deluxe Winchester of the same era (late 19th & early 20th C)? Is there much interest in these?
Couldn't tell you about any books on those 44's and 44 1/2 rifles, but they are pretty popular still today in Schuetzen and bpcr competitions.
I used an original 44 in 22 lr with a heavy barrel to win the Wyoming State 22 bpcr A class scope match.
CPA makes new 44 1/2 in various configurations. I was fortunate enough to win one of their new long range models during the drawing at the BPTR National match at the Whittington Center a week ago. It's a 45-90 and what little I've shot it, it's going to be a real challenger if I do my part.
