I'm thinking of buying some factory 357's so I can get some more brass. I'd like to get 1000 more cases.

$230 for 1000 pieces is a little high, but it's good to have a backup plan if I start having issues with my current brass. Thanks for the link.

In answer to your question, .357 Magnum ammunition is not fired in volume by military or law enforcement agencies, nor by individuals; agencies and individuals who have weapons that are chambered for .357 normally load them with .38 special, and reserve the more powerful cartridge for "special occasions" - hence the limited availability of reloadable .357 cases.

Midway wants $153.99 per 1000 plus shipping for Starline. However, $230 is still cheaper than 1,000 rounds of factory ammo. They don't even list bulk ammo. 500 rounds of Remington runs over $200.
Brass can usually be had at gun shows.

Out of Stock, No Backorder
Date expected in stock: 06/08/2015

Back when things were worse than this I back ordered some directly from Starline and it shipped within the month.

For $230 per 1K I would just shoot something else. Not happening.

I have noticed that prices for once-fired .357 brass have gone up exponentially over the last few years. IMO, people just don't leave much .357 brass on the ground these days. Most .357 shooters I know reload and, even those who don't are likely to save it for someone in their circle who does.

I would keep my eye open for starline to start taking back orders on it again. I know it sucks to have to wait but you can buy new starline brass cheaper than most once fired brass.

Yep, be patient, shoot something else. Sucks. I haven't seen .22 Hornet brass in over two years.

I have 650 pieces of 357 brass + 100 nickel (actually 99 since one was too short). My issue current is I have 550 rounds loaded, 50 in my ready to go bucket and 150 in my needs depriming bucket.

Tried Midway with the results you posted, xtreme and other places. It's hopeful the place you listed has it, might mean there could be some coming. I love the starline brass. I was thinking of buying a few hundred rounds of 357's just to get the brass.

Thanks 2b I marked on favorites. I have another 357, Dan Wesson from the pack I believe 8/3.8'' barrel. just laying up that will be something I will be getting ready to reload for. I'm having a hard time finding some 357.

Used .357 brass has been hard to find for 20 years. I used to think it was blasphemy to buy used brass. I only had 1000-1500 pieces for the longest time. I finally sucked up 5 years or so ago and paid for used brass. Even then, it was tough to find.

It's been a lot worse the last six years. New brass used to be available all the time, and once fired wasn't selling for more than new.

I wasn't suggesting you buy all 1000 there, only that you might want to get 100 or 200 to hold you over until supplies return to somewhat normal. I agree that price is prohibitive.

I feel lucky, I was on the notification list at Midway for the new Starline 357 brass. I got the notification on my phone, quickly ordered 500, and in a few minutes they were out of stock again. I had been on the notification list for a long time, maybe a year? It was so long I forgot about it.

Ended up paying about $0.17 per, which was cheaper than once-fired brass from other places.

Diamond K has once-fired in stock.

I appreciate the link Walkalong, I bookmarked it. Those prices are cheaper than what my local gun store was selling brass for, I bought 100 remmington cases for $29 there. Always good to have a backup source :).

Thanks, but I believe it was someone else who supplied the link.

I do have quite a few links bookmarked to places that sell OF or range brass. The prices vary a lot from vendor to vendor, and sometimes it changes who's best. Some are fair, and some are ridiculous.

I could PM them to you. Maybe one of them will help.

Put yourself on the "notify me" list @ Starline. My experience has been that it's not long till you get notified. Once notified, there seems to be plenty to go around. Like any reloading component over the last few years, it's best to get it while you can, as opposed to when you need it.

The most economical and fastest way to buy any new brass is from Starline direct. They are much cheaper than their suppliers that carry it, and, orders for over $50 they ship free.
Just find your cartridge and get your name on the "notify me" list.
They, and I am sure all brass manufacturers, do not run all calibers all the time, they rotate.
