I have been unable to go shooting for about two months while recovering from surgery. Today I went to the range in a light snow with my buddy and had a blast with four of my favorite handguns: a .40 S&W Glock 23 with 180grain Reman. Freedom Munitions rounds, a .38 special S&W Model 10 with 158 grain LSWC reloads using CFE Pistol and Trailboss, a .44 magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk single action with 240 grain LSWC over Bullseye and Trailboss, and a CZ82 with steel cased 9x18mm Makarov FMJ. I chose those four because I was afraid of being rusty and wanted handguns which I could count on shooting reasonably well, and none of them disappointed.

I was happy shooting paper at 25 to 50 feet and steel plates at 25 to 50 yards. The Model 10 was especially glad to get in my hand, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well it shot using both powders. But the star of the day was the CZ82. I hit just about everything I aimed at with that pistol. Attached is my final target for the session on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper: eight rounds of 9x18mm Brown Bear FMJ from right at eight yards. The CZ82 is one sweet shooter. Finishing up the range visit like that made for an enjoyable ride home.

CZ82

Yes. I love my CZ82 also. It is the most accurate handgun that I own. I have been hand loading for it for about 3 or more years. My standard hand load has been the 95 Berry RN with W-231/HP38 .3.8 grains works fine for me in accuracy. I have used Starline brass as well as S&B. This load is as accurate or better than any of the factory loads I have tried. I have just started using MBC 93 grain bullets. My load is 3.1 grains of RedDot. They show a lot of promise but so far not as good as the Berrys. I am sorry that I only bought 1 CZ 82 at the time and price. It is a real winner.:banghead:

I have a CZ-83 in .32acp
While it is the same overall size as a Glock 26 9mm and heavier when fully loaded I still consider it as the pinnacle of .32 acp handgun design.
Remember, the Plastic Fantastic Glock type pistols were nothing but a drawing board concept, setting aside the H&K VP70 which is a MUCH larger handgun, when these pistols were being used in Service.
You're right, they are very satisfying shooting pistols if now a bit obsolete.

I too have a CZ 83 in .32 ACP. Very nice handgun. I have no doubt the 82 is as well.

They are great little guns. Mine does not get shot as much as it should.

Thanks, jlr. I'll have to find a pic of the other one I refinished. The original finish was pretty flaky, and it felt right to make them new again.

Thanks, pilot. It's KG Gunkote all over. All individual parts were lightly blasted, and I baked on the KG. The worst part was reassembly, but it wasn't terrible.
I do have to admit though, my friend did the sand blast. At the time, it was his, but he sold it to me after the refinish.

Two years ago i sold mine . The tiny trigger return spring broke and was a pain to reinstall a new one. CZ 82 is a fine pistol though , very accurate.

tow days ago I had cataract surgery. Too my 82 out today, and I shot it well. It had to be the gun. accurate is its name. Mine were used and have polygonal rifling. th3ey look bad, but shoot GREAT!

Love my CZ82 as well. Best shooting handgun I have. I wasn't expecting it to be as accurate as it was when I got it, but it is definitely accurate. Took it out and shot at 60 yards, just to see how I could do. Somewhere I have a picture of the target, but they were all within the target area. I definitely can't do that with any of my other handguns.

I agree. The Commies built a very nice gun. I have been bouncing around buying a pair of them, Ceracoating and putting new grips on them and giving them as gifts to my two daughters.
BSA, just so you know, they haven't been Commies since 1989 (and never were by choice) and all 16 of my CZs, except my VZ70, were made after then. Excellent guns regardless.

I refinished a couple CZ 82's. I love these things. Great guns.
Here's the last one I did.
Hamp Sandwich, that one looks fantastic! I never liked the stock plastic grips and a nice set of wood grips feels and looks so much better.
Here is a pic of my 83 .380, sharing a pic with my Zastava M88a 9mm.

The CZ82 was designed in 1982 and manufactured by the Czechoslovak firm Česká zbrojovka the vz. 82 replaced the 7.62x25mm Tokarev vz. 52 pistol in Czechoslovak military service in 1983.

From 1948 to 1990 Czechoslovakia was part of the communist Warsaw Pact and in 1989, as communism was ending all over Europe, Czechoslovakians peacefully deposed their government.

I said "The Commies built a very nice gun."

The word "built" is the past tense and past participle of build.

!983 predates 1989 by 6 years. That makes it a Commie gun.

Yeah.
Except the Czechs were never really into the whole "Commie" thing and resisted Moscow at every turn right up to the end.

I have a CZ-83 w/satin nickel finish. That reminds me. I'm going to the range tommorow the -83 hasn't been out of the safe in a couple of years. I read somewhere the reason it shoots so well is because of the fixed barrel.

Indeed they did and the Czechs continue to build very good guns. I am well aware of Ceska Zborjovka (and even know how to pronounce it!) as we have Czech friends that bring back cool stuff from the factory store in Prague, things we can't get here. BTW, my 83 was built in 2007, but is still based on a "Commie" design. Pretty good review attached, for those interested.
