I became aware of the Vang Comp system many years ago and thought it was a great idea - much tighter pattern and reduced felt recoil. I was just about ready to send my 870 in for the modification when somebody mentioned that it may ruin the accuracy with slugs. This would be a deal breaker so I did some research on the net. Some of the "experts" claim significant problems with slugs while some say it has no effect on slug accuracy at all. I contacted one vendor (not Vang Comp itself) who assured me that it will improve slug accuracy although the accuracy example he gave me was not as good as what I already have.

If anybody has any actual experience with this matter I'd like to know how you made out. I have an 870 Wingmaster with the factory 20" smoothbore rifle sighted barrel. Thanks for your help!

Not true. I took a shotgun class at Tac Pro Shooting Center from Bill Davison. There was a young lady taking the course with us and she was using Bill's Vang Comped 870. She certainly suffered no accuracy loss with slugs as she scored better than the rest of us when shooting slugs. We each fired about 1000 rounds of bird shot and about 150 slugs during the 3 day course. Here is a nice shot of her shooting the gun from another post.
