Hoping, if the weather cooperates, to get her going in the next two weeks and find that like-a-ble load. I am thinking it will be a higher grain bullet also. The Nosler 120gr is a BT @ 3000fps with plenty of energy out to 300yrds. The Federal Premium 140gr is also a BT @ 2800fps and of course good energy. And the Hornady 139gr is an interlock @ 2840 and excellent energy. The 120 would be the flattest , but not much more than the heavier grains. It will be fun. After deciding the load, then will come the practice, much more than I have ever done before. First shot out of a cold barrel grouping, out of a warm barrel, hot one, fouled one. Off a rest, under the forearm, being held next to tree, sitting and braced, hot day, cold day, all just to generate some data for fun, and me and Rose will get to know each other. Have always loved holding, admiring and shooting a gun.

Suprane, I am like you and smitten with my Featherweight. Mine is SC made and I couldn't be happier with fit, finish and overall fluid function and reliability. It has quickly become my favorite rifle. Mine is in .308 and topped with a VX II 3-9 x 40. My hunting buddies and I recently stretched our rifles out to 265 and I was blown away at all of us shooting 1.5 to 2" groups. You could only shoot three shots in a group, though, the thin tapered barrel would heat up and we notice the 4th and 5th shots would begin to walk. But as you know, its not a bench gun, or at least not designed to be. Here's mine:

I think I got a nice piece of wood on it

Next to a Rem Mohawk 600

The Federal 2800 fps 140 Gr. load sighted in a 2 in. high at 100 yds. would be about 7 in. low at 300 yds. Federals stated velocity is usually high about 100 fps over actual velocity. If you have access to a chronograph use it.

Thomis, man just awesome set up. Beautiful grain. Mine has some great grain also, but too much reflection and the cheek rest hides the best of it on the butt stock area. SC made M-70s are returning the rifle to a high place among their brethren. What's the neat looking brother beside your M-70. Bullchip, useful info thanks. When discussing wringing her out left out old man wind and seeing how the bullets buck him.

Suprane, that little rifle is a Remington Mohawk 600 in .243 topped with a Leupold Ultralight 3-9 x 33. Its a sweet woods gun!!

I think that you would be happier with just a set of Weaver bases and Rifleman std or low rings.
I've got 3 Rem Mod-7's. Two have Leupold 1-piece bases and low-extention rings. The other just weaverbases and low rings.
One is in 7mm08 and is my favorite rifle. It prefers 150gr bullets (handloads, no factory ammo in this weight).
Most of the deer I've shot with it has been with 139gr Hornady's. Excellent bullets. Also, the 140gr Sierra's (flat-base and boat-tail) are good. (as loaded by Federal in factory ammo- it's the boat-tail ammo you have).
I was disappointed at the performance of the 140gr Nosler Partitions. They don't penetrate as much as I'd been led to believe. I actually get/got better performance from Remington Corlokts (not just in 7mm, too) and the Hornady Interloks. I have some 150gr Nosler's and I put in for a Wyoming bull elk tag this am, so there's a chance I'll give them a chance...
My 7mm08 wears a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x. Best scope I've ever owned, and best combination of magnification.
My best friend used it to take a 6x6 bull elk in '05. The outfitter and several guides tried to buy the rifle off of him after seeing it perform. They couldn't believe such a small cartridge and rifle could perform as it did.
If a good looking Win. Mod-70fw was to come my way, I'd probably add it to my "stable". I've always like them.
My younger brother has a pre-64 M-70fw in .308. His wears a Leupold, too... He's killed 4 elk with it to date. He uses a Nosler 150gr Partiton handload.
To get the best from the 7mm-08, you'll need to hand load...
(hint; Reloader17 and 150gr bullets).

i bought a rem LH 700 sps in 7mm08 6-7 years ago and mounted a 2x7 leupold scope on it and killed a pile of deer, i just put a 2.5x8-36mm VX 111 boone&crockett on it i won at a raffle. i have to sight it in for this years deer season, the load i have used in the rifle is 43grs varget and a nosler 120gr BT and it shoots one inch or better three shot groups at one hundred yards. whats not to like, light weight, weather proof and accurett. eastbank.

pictures of the rifle and a doe i shot last season with the 7mm08. eastbank.

man all great stuff. Thanks eastbank, thomis and gooseG. I'll see how she shoots with the rings and bases I have and then go from there. Like I said not wanting a bench rifle 2MOA out to 280yds good enough.

Doc7, LOL. I am chomping at the bit. It has been one thing after another, but hopefully this coming week will get in some range time and get some groups posted. You're a pistol buddy, really enjoy your comments. TC.
